I did thanks - I thought I'd feel uncomfortable because I only knew one person, but I got chatting to quite a few people I didn't know, and it was nice. :)

Wol what are T3 and T4?

    Hi A

They are two of the three thyroid hormones that can give an indication of how your thyroid is functioning if feeling below par. Symptoms of "below par functioning" include dry skin, hair thinning, big-time depression, unexplained weight gain and generally feeling lousy.

These days the NHS only tests TSH ..and if that is outside of normal range, they will do T3 and ONLY if that and TSH are outside the normal range will they then possibly agree to test T4.

There are a good few ladies that only have a T4 deficiency - which nevertheless means they have a thyroid issue with all the symptoms...but as T4 is longer "part of the testing procedure" and their TSH is normal range, they therefore go "undiagnosed" and "untreated"

I have T4 deficiency..courtesy of a benign brain tumour.....luckily my GP is aware because I originally got private testing done many years ago. However despite this condition, we cannot get a T4 level done on the NHS because my TSH and T3 are within normal range....so I have to go private each time to the tune of £650 ...in order to justify another NHS prescription of thyroxin....
    ...go figure! :(

    Hope this answers your question?

Hey el not seen you about for ages either xxx

Maybe we should have a wee Scottish meet for the northerners and slowly build up to a Manchester meet once we all feel more comfortable ?
