New Bathroom

I am going to be getting a new bathroom suite fitted and 1 1/2 walls need the old tiles removed and then new tiles fitted as well as a small floor. The floor will also need relaying or covering in wood as it is water damaged. The shower will also need to removed and replaced.
I was told 1 to 2 weeks to do it all, does this seem a long time?

It all depends who the tiles come off,the wall my need patching etc.
but 2 full weeks is a bit long,i would say about 6 days work.
2/3 days-take off and retile
2 days-take out old suite and install new
1/2 take up old floor and relay
1/2 day clearing site
2days drinking tea;) optional.0 -
I had a new bathroom fitted last september.
And it was suppose to be just over a weeks worth of work. But to save money and time. We stripped the walls of the tiles.
In the end it was 5 days worth of work to fit new bathroom, put the tiles up, paint and new lino.
The person was not there allday and left most days at about 3.30ish after starting at 9.30-10ish every morning. As well as an hour everyday for lunch.

I bought a bathroom suite with 1300 (smaller than normal size)steel bath for £199 including delivery. Think we managed to swing free delivery somehow from Travis Perkins.
I did mention this on another thread and someone added that they thought TP stood for top prices.
I disagree for serveral reason
1) A arcylic 1300 bath from B& Q was £129 rather than £80 for a steel one from TP.
2) to get a bathroom suite as cheap as £199 in somewhere like B&Q with a full size bath most will look cheap and tacky. And have shells on it. And that is for arcylic bath.
So I would check out Travis Perkins and maybe even Jewsons. Not sure of there prices. But they wanted more for the same size bath.
I did see in focus that they had a bathroom suite with steel bath for about £230ish and arcylic for about £199 and it was a classic one one not ones of these with shells on it.
But of course depends on if you want a steel or arcylic bath.
Hope you like your new bathroom once you get it. I think for us it helped us to sell our flat quicker then if we had not.

Thanks for your helpful and detailed advice, plumb1. I've not received a quote with the added option of 2 days drinking tea, but as a professional you should know.

We did our bathroom last year, and I have to say the tiles were an absolute pig to get off and wrecked the wall, we had to have a section of it replastered in the end.
Suite came from B&Q, although not the cheaper ranges. They do a good brochure and we did a kind of pick and mix thing.
Also got tiles from B&Q - if you are tiling yourself choose bigger tiles, its quicker!!
Flooring.. we put sheets (plywood??) over the poor quality floorboards and then got some nice vinyl fitted.0 -
We bought our main suite from Wickes and has been excellent from ordering, delievery and after installed. My colleague who bought his suite from Homebase at the same time says "they are cr^p". It took them twice as long delivery and 2 subsequent deliveries to make up the missing bits. Not forgetting the numerous phone calls to the shop who then tried palming him off to the couriers, etc, etc.
Screwfix also sell cheap bathroom suites. We're looked at a cloakroom set.:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0 -

If you're in the Merseyside area, I can recommend an outstanding small tile company in Birkenhead. We did our bathroom last August and they were very accommodating with regard to samples, delivery returns, etc (and no - Im not associated with them in any way!). I checked a number of firms out in my area and non natched up with this firm in any respect. Let me know if you need their details as I don't have them with me today.0 -
I've just bought a suite at focus. a chamomile.it was £189 but had to take it away myself-its surprising wot you can get in a cavalier! BUT no shell pattern. the bath was acrylic and a steel bath suite was about £230ish.0

This made me smile and totally OT but I was listening to Radio2 yesterday in the car and the contestant on Steve Wright was a recent convert to Radio2.
He said it was because part of the contract of his recent workman in the house was that he had to have Radio2 on all day :rotfl:0
