aa membership rip off!

Hi
Have just received my AA renewal quote and was excited to see I have become a 'GOLD' member after 21 years loyal service!! The charge for this was £178.
Last year after haggling I paid £99 so an increase of £80!! When I rang today they brought it down to £145. Then when I asked to add my newly qualified 18 year old DD1 it jumped back to £187!!!!
I am now looking at the other alternatives online but would appreciate some reviews for anyone who has breakdown cover other than AA or RAC.
Many thanks in advance.

Depends what cover you want.
Basic cover they take you to a garage as long as your not within 5 miles of home and the nearest garage is not more than 30 miles away.
You can get for under £30 probably.
But if it wont start at home your not covered and breakdown outside a dealers you have to take it there you cannot goto the cheaper guy 200 yards down the road.
Plenty of alternatives. But also plenty of policies that may not suit your needs. Pointless getting one of those if its not suitable.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Multiple threads on this subject , do what the rest of do.
Been an AA member for far more years than you , and when I became a 'wonderful' gold member , just said , 'I will pay , the same amount as last year.' Take it or leave it .
Don't try and argue with them , just state your terms ......... they WILL agree.0 -
Sorry did a search before I posted - not much came up.
Will try again tomorrow with AA but they weren't up for it today.0 -
Have been with Green Flag for years and years.
Used them twice, once flat battery, once with total engin failier whilst towing a caravan,
Got us 120 milles to home within a few hours.
Would not change from them.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

Just got my renewal through from Autoaid - £39 for me and the wife in any car. Cover includes :
Roadside assistance
Car and Passenger recovery to any UK destination
Home breakdowns
Emergency travel and overnight accommodation
Cover for caravans and small trailers
Cover for theft and vandalism0 -
I do like the service from the AA. They try to up the price every year and up till now have always knocked it down if you say you want to cancel. Mine is now around £20.00 less than the RAC new customer rate. (Or the AA new customer rate).0

2gether Breakdown gets a lot of good reviews but their site is so terrible I thought it was a scam at first. I gave it a go anyway - £39 for more options than my £100+ AA quote - so we'll see how it goes.0

Just call them to cancel, they will ask why, tell them you will not pay more than the new member joining price, they haggle, stick to it, keep saying no that price or cancel and they will let you pay the new members price.
With the AA you do get a mechanic who may be able to fix your car as opposed to a bloke with a set of jump leads and a tow truck with the cheap services.Be happy...;)0 -
On the off chance you have a Toyota, you can join Club Toyota for £64 a year for full AA cover.0
