Is it easier for migrants to find jobs?

This is just my observation but I am wondering if anyone else has similar finding?

About 30% of our work force is made up of eastern Europeans, I started almost a year ago and none of the migrants that were there when I started are there now while all the natives are still stuck.

I asked one who was leaving the other day about where he was going, he told me, I'd sent in a speculative CV a few weeks earlier to this company and heard nothing, I asked how he got the job, he said his friend got him in, the guy had no sooner handed in his notice to the boss came down with a new start form and gave it to another migrant worker obviously to pass it on and the next day another new migrant recruit, seems to be a never ending supply.

I've posted about my efforts to get out in the past, but I was surprised to hear that everyone else seems to be doing the same yet as I say the only folk moving anywhere are the migrants.

  • Rather than looking at them as "migrants", why not look at them as a group of people that know how to maximise their personal network? That has nothing to do with nationality, but rather that they are savvy jobseekers.

Nah not really they are cheap labour to be fair. My old company took on two girls from Europe - one of them didn't even know how to write out a company cheque!:eek:

It's also why equality rights were brought in to Northern Ireland, it stopped employers favoring one section of the community.

Not many youngsters would know how to write a company cheque either regardless of their nationality
Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked

Are they favouring a certain "section", or are they employing people that take the initiative? Have you recommended anyone when positions have become available?

They aren't young they are in their 30's and if you want a job in accounts I'd expect that you would know how to do that.

But one of them was favoured over a bloke returning to work after being a house husband bringing up the kids as his wife had a better job etc as the management accountant wanted to 'give her one'!!!

I'm a part qualified accountant in my early thirties - I can count the number of cheques I have written on two hands. Some businesses do not use them.

Often migrants will work for NMW when UK workers want the going rate for skilled work. Also often they are paid less than NMW and dont complain like on building sites and suchlike.
Employers just want cheap, compliant, easily disposable labour so they use migrants. Thats the bottom line.

Take a look at parts of the country where English people will not work. Boston for example, they dont call it Little Poland for nothing. Many jobs have been taken by people from other countries simply because UK residents will not work. Boston has a large population of farm workers and these are proberly 90% men and women from Eastern countries that have come over to take jobs that UK residents do not want to do. I would imagine that the vegetable picking jobs are minimum wage, plus its damn cold out there on a winters morning. What would you rather do pick veg for a few quid a hour in the wind rain snow and hail or sit at home watching Jeremy Kyle? These workers are genuine hard working people also and dont give a monkies about the weather.

So to answer your question, I would have to say YES (but only in certain parts of the UK)
All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.
