Faulty tv from currys, not 6 months old yet!!

Please could I have some advise.

I have a Samsung tv that I brought in aug 12, some not quite 6 months old yet. Rang currys, and at first they said I would have to ring Samsung direct. Well after much arguments, they then advised me that they can send it away to be repaired, but this could take up to 28 days. I pointed out that this was unexpectable, and that I wanted an exchange. The tv was not cheap!!! I then asked for the contact for head office, as the manager told me they did not have the power to offer an exchange.

Any advice would much-appreciated

  • After the length of time you have had it the retailer is in their rights to decide if to repair, replace or refund the goods as you will have certainly be deemed to have "accepted" it (normally within a couple of days at most).

TV, contrary to popular believe these days, is not going to be classified as an essential for life and so a factor of "up to" 4 weeks is probably not significant enough to be able to demand an alternative method (it would be different if it was your cooker or your way of getting to work etc)
  • Thanks for your reply.

Oh I don't know, that's exactly what I'd expect from Currys.

Chill76 if you do decide to let Currys take itin for repair please do take photos of the TV prior to giving it to them (i.e. at the store). There have been many occasions where TVs have come back scratched or damaged and the retailer denies responsibility

Good advice for a lot of situations. For example, handing over your property to someone elses care, sending something in the mail, selling something online or even when in a car accident (its not unknown for people to claim it was worse than it was in hopes of a bigger payout and it can also help prove what happened if they lie to avoid blame). .....always a good idea to take pictures.

Is there a reason you don't want to contact Samsung directly? It's possible they would organise a repair more efficiently than Currys would, so may be worth a try.

I guess that might be unexpectable too.

If it's bigger than 32", I'm fairly sure Samsung send an engineer to try and fix it in home. They only take it to the repair centre if it's not possible to fix in home. But it does depend on the service centre

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Borderline but if less than six months old then up to store to prove it wasn't faulty when you bought it
