Help please, Ebay account in jeopardy

That's a ridiculous assumption, if any "cynical" person is thinking that. I always pay immediately or wait for an invoiced total when buying in multiples, if the seller states that. I have never sold on ebay, I figured the payment total is done manually by the seller. It took the seller 5 hours to contact me and I agreed to pay the postage and asked to send an invoice for payment. Instead the seller said he couldn't send an invoice for payment and said me to buy 2 of the items (after I had bought and paid for 4) and he would use the balance for payment and refund the difference (which would be about 20p or so) I mean why wouldn't he just send the invoice for payment? And if I needed 2, I would not buy 4. At that point, I asked to cancel cos it seemed to be too much stress, and he agreed. I decided to purchase from some one else. And I got the NPB email yesterday morning. I was understandably worried about it. I am certainly within my rights to think this seller is dishonest. I have all the emails we sent.

I agree that the seller doesn't sound like he's entirely on top of things but calling him a manipulative criminal and a horrible person seems pretty excessive and unfair based on what you've said here.

The seller should have opened a case for mutual cancellation rather than a NPB.
I guess you could pay the total cost and either make more of the items, or, if you feel vindictive, raise a SNAD to return them...
I'm sure they smell of smoke or something ;-)

Personally I would at least pay for one or two of them to give myself the option of leaving feedback even if my earlier suggestion is not what OP wants to do.

Speaking as someone who has just had to refund a freshly dry cleaned expensive dress that had obviously been worn and returned filthy next day because it 'smelled of smoke' I dont think you should be advocating that.

To be honest, I think you're making some rather large and unwarranted assumptions about the seller.

if a seller makes statements like this
thats fine but i thought the delivery would be cheaper than £1.72 since it would be combined.
they replied saying if a seller agrees to combine postage doesnt mean it will be cheaper

then you have to wonder about them.
I know RMs PIP system can lead to combining not being cheaper, but in that case a seller should be making it clear why and they are sending them seperatly

The seller finally decided to cancel the transaction and the NPB case seems to have vanished too. I admit I'm a bit paranoid right now, about buying off ebay. I'm seriously considering buying an item off them so I can leave feedback and warn others of this dodgy seller.

You can leave feedback if the sales were cancelled.

Dont really think Ebay is for you - you make a straighforward transaction a problem.

"Dont really think Ebay is for you - you make a straightforward transaction a problem"

    Lets see now.

    Buyer bought items,
    Buyer received invoice
    Buyer paid invoice

Seller then decides/discovers wrong amount on invoice

Buyer asks for new invoice for amount due

Seller says - no can do.

    No invoice - no payment

Either seller takes time to find out how to send buyer a 2nd invoice, so payment can be made OR seller waives postage charge in this case due to their error/mistake.

Next time, they would be more careful when sending their invoice

Buyer willing to make postage payment, Seller unwilling to send 2nd invoice.

    And who's to blame ???
Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay
