I remember taking an Astra GTE into my local KF depot many yeras ago for 2 rear shock absorbers as they were worn out. As they were gas they came with a life time warranty. 12 months later took the same car in for 2 front shockers, I asked them to check the rears while they were at it. As I expected, they said they were sorry to say they to were 'knackered'. In that case said I, please change those as well and promptly produced my warranty. Their faces were a picture !!

We took ours to Kirkstall Kwik Fit as we were hearing a funny sound from the back left of the car and presumed it was a tyre. Was informed it was a wheel bearing when they raised the car and spun the tyre ("Hear that?" Well, no actually....) Feeling a little suspicious we took it to the VW Garage where we were told it was actually a fault in the air con system which would cost around £1200 to repair. Thanking our lucky stars that it's still under warranty! Just goes to show that Kwik Fit will take literally any problem with your car and turn it into something they can "fix" to earn more money for themselves.

Isn't "Kwik-Fit" an anagram of "robbing barstewards"?

I think they have an alarm that goes off whenever a woman takes her car in there. You tend to get a long-winded, petrol-head type explaination of what exactly is wrong with your tyres/brakes etc and a dire warning of what will happen if you don't spend at least £400 in there ("Just imagine what would happen if your brakes failed with your kiddies in the car love!")

I only went in mine for the free brake check (at the insistence of my husband) and they still managed to damage the one of the drums. They quoted me double the going rate for a simple ball joint repair and then made noises about my (new) tyres. There was nothing wrong with my brakes as it turned out, at least not until they got their hands on them. I got the car fixed elsewhere.

Am I allowed to report a good experience with Kwik Fit?! :) I had an old car which started being very noisy and the MOT was due. I booked a full service and MOT with Kwik Fit in Kirkstall for £150ish and paid upfront online. They took a look at it and called me, said the engine is rattling and is really on its way out and its not worth servicing and will fail the MOT because of the emissions! I said what about my £150 and they re-funded it. They could have quite easily done the service and MOT and taken the money :)

Only reason I ever go there is desperation (they're my closest garage for miles.) Their adverts stating they don't treat female customers like idiots is a load of twaddle. I went in for a quote for emergency repairs by myself a few years ago and then sent my bf's dad in for a second opinion - funny how he was quoted much less and there was no mention of tyres needing to be replaced! When I went in early in the morning for the repair one of the mechanics was chatting away to the guy serving me whilst swigging a can of red bull about how he was still hung-over from going to a strip club the night before and how it had been "disappointing".

I'm not prudish at all but, come on, guys, at least *try* to act like a professional in front of a room full of customers!

Still, not as bad as the guys my insurers sent to replace my broken windscreen. They were 3 hours late, broke the mechanical cup-holder in my car and then ordered the wrong replaement part so had to come back another 2 times to fix the damage they caused while fixing the window! Never going with that insurer again!

The only time i have used Kwik-Fit is upon a price match.

It was always a hassle getting Michelin Exalto PE2 Tyres down from £120 to £80-90 each, every 8-9 months. :(

Many years ago my boyfriend phone Kwik-fit and got a price for tyres over the phone. When I took the car in the price given almost doubled.

I asked if they were the right kind of tyres and the response was "they're all round and black hen, what other kind of tyres do you think there are??"

I was mortified and paid the higher price though boyfriend did phone up later and get a refund.

I wouldn't put up with that kind of !!!! now.
