i would highly recommend being strong and using stuff up....i took to rooting through my cupboards on a monday and putting a selection of tins/packets on the counter top so i could see them and tried really hard to include them in my plan that week

    This is a fantastic idea!!

A much-needed no spend day today. Had veggie chilli for dinner with rice and yoghurt.

Great advice Tess,I save a small fortune by growing my own in summer and amdrooling at the thought of my first rhubarb, raspberrys and strawberries.

For anyone wanting to try to grow their own salad leaves, Wilkinsons have a 3 for 2 offer, I got 2 packs lettuce ( each 750 seeds) and pack raddish 200 seeds for 1.20.

Deffinitely dont recommend for money saving but has given me a very much needed fit of the giggles is the poundland mushroom kit, it has produced, wait for it, TWO mushrooms, must remember not to eat them all at once:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'd love to grow my own but never know what can be grown in Tubs or not. We only have a concrete yard and not sure how well anything would do in it lol scared of the foxes or next doors cat getting it. X
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Haven't properly caught up on the thread yet but reporting in with some spending....

    £40 on petrol
£13.44 A*da - mostly lunches for the week, cereal and milk. That feels like a lot for lunches now that I've written it down :o
£4.18 Co/op - flour for the bread-maker (including lovely reduced flour), tomatoes and cereal bars for lunch (hmm, more lunchy spends)

    Total £125.16 / £180

Hoping that I won't need petrol again till the end of the month and I can stay in budget. I'll be very pleased if I do - first month and a bit of a guess at spending.....:T

I have lots of meat in the freezer but its all the other things to make a meal out of I am finding expensive. I need to make my meal plan till the end of the month and see where I can save some pennies.

    Morning!!

Well the mammoth shop took 3 hours last night  and to top things off the husband lost the car key so we had to stand outside in the piddling snow trying to find it. Daft sausage had put it in one of the shopping bags after being so adamant that he wouldn't do such a thing

Anyhoo we spent £70.35 in Aldi and £152.68 in Mr A which is a grand total of <du du du du du du duuuuuhhh> £223.03 I was so shocked! This included a months worth of nappies, toiletries, cleaning stuff and easter eggs for 4 kiddlywinks. Last month when we attempted a monthly shop we spent about £260 the first time and then spent ridiculous amounts every week to top up.
I've set aside £100 for the rest of the month for top ups on fresh fruit, milk, cream etc so if all goes to plan I think we may come in under budget which would be amazing! We had a cheeky little McD's afterwards coming in at around £6 :o It was 9pm and we hadn't had dinner yet. I'm not going to beat myself up too much as we seem to be on track <fingers crossed>

    £229.03/£400

hey what meat do you have? people may be able to give you ideas... such as

Packet of broth mix - tesco £1.09 for 500g. 30g is a portion so 17p a portion. lovely cooked with stock in pan with bacon/gammon and will make the meat go for miles

bag of value spuds - eg asda smart price 2.5kg for £1.20 - mash/boil/bake/wedges to go with whatever you have

value tins of tomatoes approx 30p - to make your meat a bit italian or mexican-ish

value kidney beans - approx 25p - for chilli..

i am sure everyone will have billions of ideas for you if you want to let us know what meat you have in .. x
