O/S Monday 18 February 2013

O/S Daily Monday 18th February This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as wel

  • Good morning every one and an early one for me as I have to pick my pal up at 5.00 and run her to Heathrow. Her DD lives in the U.S. and was rushed into hospital with pneumonia on Friday afternoon and has since had two lots of fluid drained from her lungs. She has two small children and her OH has to work so Mum is doing what all Mums do in that situation flying over to stand in for her.I said I would help by taking her to the airport this morning, so fingers crossed the M25 is behaving itself this morning .Then I shall return to Kent whare I am picking up three of my grandsons and my DD and almost repeating the journey again as we have promised them a trip to Windsor Castle. My pal Pat is so worried about her DD and I know she would do the same if the tables were turned. So by tonight I may be a little cream-crackered :):)
Yesterday we took the boys to Westgate -on-sea and it was lovely on the beach The boys and DD went crabbing and I had a stroll along the front (nice and flat ):) then a hot drink out of the wind and read the free sunday papers that are provided in the cafe.very pleasant.Lovely lamb dinner when we got home that my son-in-law had cooked and then I came home for an early night as I knew it was going to be and early start this morning .I am just going to have a shower and some breakfast then pick my friend up and tooddle off round the motorways.Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing

Morning Jackie and all who follow,

I've been awake since 3.30:o Listened to a really good programme on Five live though. "Adventures of a Blue Badger" about a disabled lady and the way she deals with her disability. Could sympathise with a lot of it:rotfl:

Had a lovely weekend. OH painted the new toilet and pantry, mthen put up the grab rails, mirror etc. Looks very posh now, only problem this week is the door wasn't dry, so I have an open loo:rotfl: Good job no one else is here!

Hoping the builder turns up today, to start on the bit of decking outside my kitchen, where I fell last September. I haven't been out there since I had my accident I am too frightened of falling again, so if it is decked, at least it will be safe, and I can use my washing line again.:T

DD, SIL and DGD came over for dinner yesterday. I did roast pork which was yummy. DGD ate two yorkshire puds and a huge dinner and pudding, which was good. Saw the scan pictures of our new grandchild. The hospital say it is a big baby, but I think the dates are wrong:rotfl: It'll come when it's ready.

Need to ring the doc at 8.30 I forgot my injection on Friday, so need it today.:o

Fasting day today, so drinking lemon and ginger tea.
    Have a good day all!

Hilstep, coming out of lurking to say that when decking gets wet it is deadly. We have some and when its wet if you're unaware it's like an ice rink! Go easy.

Lovely weekend here in N Yorkshire, got lots done outside including the front garden which is very low maintenance, so that's done for the next couple of years! Started on the base for the greenhouse, then dealt with ds1!! Today off to b&q to get stuff to make the base! BM on, WM needs spinning and will then go on the line, DW needs emptying and refilling! Will start these when the house wakes up a bit! Half term survival mode!!!!!!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Wow the thread's up and running early this morning.!

Well the Girls did have a sleep over at grandmas last nigh. Im not sure what she has planned for them today. But I think she is hoping to take them out somewhere for the day. They will be back here later on today. 6:00pm has been said somewhere along the line.

We Did our turkey thighs yesterday:j:j Very nice. Loads of meat on the one we cooked and very tasty. there's enough meat left over to do a stir fry for my wife and I tonight.
At £2.50 each will have said we will buy again. Good price, good amount of meat and and good taste.:T:T

Not much on for me today. There is some tidying and there are a few things that need to put up the loft.

Got no meal plans for today as yet. So I need to have a think about dinner tonight.

Well have a great day everyone:j:j

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dry, clear and chilly start to the day here but no wind or rain! Will put a load of washing in the machine shortly.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Lunch yesterday was the delicious lamb - it cooked beautifully and as I thought there wasn't any left after lunch, it wasn't a big joint - but I do have some other LO's left carefully stashed in the fridge. We finished off the HM cheesecake for dessert too. DH and I went to the local diy store to price up the coving we need to do the boys bedrooms - they didn't have hardly any stock and the choice was either the cheapie stuff or 1 other - so we're thinking we may have to go to next town where they have a massive diy store and buy there - but we're not ready to do it yet so was just pricing the job up.

Dinner tonight will be sausages, mash, veg and gravy, there's desserts in the fridge/tins for those that want them. Did spend some time over the weekend doing a menu plan for this week - as doing the GC and budget already blown so damage limitation in operation!

Back to work for me today and boys back to school after half term break - lots of schools I understand are on half term break this week - we live on the border of 2 counties and know lots of families where they have had 1 child on half term last week and another on half term this week - great if childcare isn't an issue but a nightmare for those that work/have no childcare. Work will no doubt be a manic Monday as loads of reminders are going out continually at the moment as it's approaching year end, at least I only have 2 and a half days working this week and then I'm on holiday next week so finish next Weds 20 Feb and don't go back until Mon 4 March - will use up the last of my annual leave just before the deadline.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone :)
Hilstep, I second the warning on the decking! We have some running the length of the back of our house and yes, when it gets wet/frosty/icy it is treacherous! Please be aware of this & be careful :)

I didn't post yesterday, had been out with friends on Saturday night! Didn't have much to drink but had a huge meal & hubby snored like a buffalo all night so didn't sleep much :( Walked through Sunday like a half shut knife! Where is the crazy party girl who used to go out 4 nights a week - now if I go out for 4 hours, I need 2 days to recover:rotfl:

Got lots to do today so I'll have my breakfast and then get started.

Have a good day everyone :)
  • Good morning all,
Very cold here but dry. Yesterdays wonderful sunshine was short lived, we had awful fog. Could just about see the bottom of the garden. It was with us for the rest of the day. No washing on the line, as planned. I hope today i will be able to get some washing out, wm is on.
We are off to get some seed potatoes today. We have usually got them by now, a little behind this year. Need to also look at what seeds we have.
Dinner tonight is leftover chicken with salad and hm wedges.
jackie, i hope your friends dd will be ok.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

  • Morning all
    Sunny here but chilly.
Hubby's been dropped at work with his pack up, home cooked ham with lettuce sarnies & I'm sat here with a cuppa making list of what I need to do whilst on my week off.
I need to do some proper HW, I keep on top of the basics week by week, but when I'm off I vacuum lampshades & move furniture etc.
I need to get a double bed downstairs to be collected by the council, I found 3 drawers in the study that escaped the last declutter & I'm bagging all my yarn into separate projects to save me hunting for odd balls.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    morning!

off to work in an hour - just had a nice leisurely start to the day - cuppa in bed with my book followed by poached egg on toast :)

JackieO - I hope your friends DD is ok, bless you for being such a good friend to her x x x

Judi - hope the atmosphere is lighter in your house today x

Have mopped the kitchen floor, run the vac round downstairs - DH managed to tread dried mud everywhere off his boots:cool:

Washing is a huge duvet cover - hung over the bannisters. Tiny bit of ironing to do but it can wait.

Have a great day all - looks like another sunny one here:T
