Can you not just use a freeware tool on something like http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

I've used this a number of times to merge/stretch partition sizes all with 100% success. There are cloning tools too, which will also set the boot partition flags so that it becomes a bootable disk, not just a normal disk with a copy of your stuff.

I think my current drive is faulty which is why I'm getting the bad sectors.
I'm going to try putting my last image onto the new drive using the Macrium boot cd (I'll disconnect my current drive first).

If that doesn't work, I'll leave my current drive disconnected and just reload windows onto the new one.
Just need to copy all my documents across from old to new drives then (shouldn't take too long).

filehippo update checker - use the stand-alone, saves installing anything. Either version won't work if the .NET framework isn't installed :(

GJ - thanks for that, I'll have a look later. It installs OK but then I get the message that is has "stopped working". Windows tries to find a solution and fails.
I wonder if it's an issue with the .net framework? Any idea which one it uses?

Hi GJ - Tried reinstalling the .NET framework(s) and it still doesn't want to know.
I've decided to just back up all my documents and start again with the clean install of the OS.

On the up side, I was running off the new HDD (I unplugged the old one and it still booted.

Thanks for all the help folks.
