Adding an extra HDD

Hi all
I'm trying to add a new HDD to my machine (running Widows 7) and BIOS won't see it.
I've tried to go into Computer Management as well and all I get from that is an error message saying it's stopped working.
It's an Award BIOS and everything in there is set to to auto for detecting drives.
Anyone any ideas?
I've probably forgotten some vital detail in this post so feel free to ask.

Take a look at this thread and see if what I found is any use to you and your BIOS0

Thanks for that.
I've now got the drive in place and being seen by BIOS.
I'm formatting it now and I want to clone my current HDD onto it.
Looking at Macrium (which I use for backups), this should be straight-forward enough.
Can I then just swap the leads over and use my new drive as my main drive (if that makes sense)?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

is your new drive larger or the exact same size after formatting, if not you may have trouble.0

It's the exact same size (931GB usable).
I'll be (hopefully) cloning it later.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Right, installed the new HDD, got it recognised in BIOS and as a drive in Windows Explorer.
Trying to use Macrium (the free version) to clone my current drive (C:) which has 2 partitions on it, to the new HDD (G:) which is formatted with one partition on it.
Can I get it to work ..... no!
It says it's done in around the 2 minute mark (not bad for 100MB on the first partition and 147GB on the second) but then Windows in it's wisdom tells me I need to format the drive and gives it a new letter.
Does anyone have any idiot-proof instructions please?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

I'd guess that to only take 2 mins it's only done the 100MB partitionHow do I add a signature?0

Toxteth - Yes, I want to make an exact copy of my current disc.
Nifty - Every time Macrium says it's finished, Windows tells me the drive needs formatting and won't even let me see what size it is in the properties context menu.
Figment - Haven't a clue.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Macrium is not working for you, so try something else.0
