Phone, grovel, grovel, wrong address plea, grovel grovel, pay (although they may want payment in full)?
    More grovel grovel.

If that doesnt get you anywhere then a written letter with formal complaint, Sent recorded delivery. I think they have 7/14 days to respond to receiving it.
But 8 weels to actually come up with an answer.

If thats not a good one then escalate it, But you could be looking at next Xmas before they sort it.
They will only see if things have been done fairly.

  • I intend on grovelling. Am I likely to hit a brick wall or is it impossible to say?
  • Impossible to say. It'll depend on what their Underwriters say and if the cancellation has already been put into place or not (i.e whether they have already cancelled but cancelled from 26th to give you time to get insurance elsewhere)

All you can do is call up, grovel and see what they say.
I work for a leading insurance company as an Insurance Advisor dealing with Commercial Insurance. Feel free to ask me any questions but please do not take what I say as correct advice at all times, as every insurance company works differently to others.

Try do quotes online and see how many insurers vanish from the list when you tick the box saying you have had insurance cancelled.

  • I did a few with GoCompare and MoneySupermarket but didn't even see that box. I know it's something, should it come to that, that I'll have to declare but where do I stand if I wasn't asked the question?

Most will have an assumption that you have never had a policy cancelled.
  • I thought that. So if they don't ask you... ?
  • Seriously, stop worrying. They've given (the required) notice of an intention to cancel only. Call them tomorrow and pay, and they won't.

.... need to make sure you comply with the assumptions as well as answering all questions truthfully.
