Privilege Car Insurance cancellation warning... Help!!

  • It'd be unfair, unwise and unprofitable of them not to accept the missed payment and proceed with the cancellation.

If you call, explain and pay they won't.

Unfair and unwise. This is an insurance company we are talking about here, Where do those play a part :)

Phone and grovel and say you didnt know because the letters were incorrectly addressed, Whilst still grovelling etc...

Unwise and unfair.. Would adding an accident prone driver to my no claims policy make my premium cheaper? Not in a sensible world yet it does,

Add mum 2 claims = cheaper.. Sister with 4 claims = cheaper. HOW ?

  • hugoshavez, I really hope you either have personal experience or some information I'm not privy to.
  • It's not my precise area, but I do have a regular string of (insurance) cases going to the Financial Ombudsman.

I'd expect an insistence on cancellation despite your being ready to pay to fall foul of their fairness test. I'd expect Privelege to know this too.

But in any case, they want your money; they'd rather keep you as a customer than cancel.
  • Is that something I should mention should they refuse? Any tips for talking them round should it come to that?

You have to put a formal complaint in 1st and they have 8 weeks to respond with an answer.
Then you can take matters further, But you maybe looking at 8 months + for that to take effect.

Doesnt help in the short term if you need the car insured now. Just make sure its not parked on the road or public area when the insurance runs out.

The tow trucks did the rounds again the other day. Im sure one of the neighbours is going around writing reg numbers down and checking tax and insurance details.

    Reporting them when they expire.

So I need to put a complaint in before anything else? You don't think I have a hope of reversing this on the phone to them on Monday?

I can't let the insurance simply run out, I need the car for my job so I'll need to re-insure with someone else if I can't get this sorted..

No, try and pay it first to get it to continue.

I'm self employed, wasn't paid for a few jobs I did in early Jan until early Feb, and I don't check my bank all that often over a month to month period. Every other bill comes out of a joint account apart from this and my phone bill.
