Halifax - Registering for online banking NIGHTMARE!

Just switched and just received card, chq book, etc...along with signature mandate form etc...was suprised to see online banking was not mentiond on any of the letters.

so thought id sign up now to online banking, asked me for several questions and then gave me a 0845 number to ring, been on phone - on hold almost 40 mins and have given up...has anyone experienced this?

what other alternative is their - by going to branch to set online banking?

i remember i did everything online for setting up a santander and didnt encounter this problem?

    No need to phone up - just click 'Register for Online Banking' on the right hand side of the login page.

    thats what i said in my previous post, i registered online, was asked to fill out some security questions about me and bank details, then another page appeared to state i needed to ring an 0845 to finish it off....been a waste of time, not to mention the amount i must of got charged for ringing, yet its a 24/7 number!

    Try the bank again later - on the few occasions when I've had to phone Halifax I've always got pretty much straight through.

    Unlikely - there was clearly a problem that meant you were not able to register online, and it's likely that only the Online Banking Helpdesk can resolve that.

    Go into the branch with id , they can get you set up there and contact the online helpdesk if need be while you are in the branch.
  • yes thats what i was thinking, the problem i was thinking of, was that maybe they were waiting to receive my signature mandate form?

    will it work if i wait a few days?

    If you can yes, they will get you to register there and then, you will get a user ID and you can enter your password/memorable word and you're good to go.

    Take ID with you, mention the issues you've had and problems, they will and should cover your phone calls and travel and inconvenience.

    And once you're set up if you ever forget your details it is so easy using the forgotten ID/Password links rather than ringing the helpline.
  • i might give it a week and then sort it out, it maybe restricted as awaiting signature mandate or may have blocked it for now until i ring or go into branch, i will ring my local branch next week to book an appointment...

    I remember trying to setup OLB in-branch, they tried three times on their computer system and it gave them an error each time, so they rang up IT Support who said they never heard of the error, and I eventually left the branch with the instructions "Try that page on your home PC later today and let us know if it works". Went through first time.

    So if it doesn't work, leave it a few days and try again.
