The Government has introduced changes to Crisis Loans.

Receiving one, no matter how justified, is now extremely difficult!

You will not be able to get a CL for bills, only for food and Gas/Elec only if they are on a card meter. They may well direct you to a food bank as stated previously. Hope you and your child are ok.

I really dont mind being directed to a food bank, and my gas and electric are on meters.

No it's not. If the OP has no money, food etc and a child it really isn't that hard.

From everything the OP has said, it will be highly unlikely that she will be refused.

She will be offered the current daily rate for food that the Crisis Loan people work from, for people in her circumstances i.e. one adult with a child. It's not much, but f you're used to eating on a budget then it will be enough.

If you're electricity and gas meters are running low (you will be asked what the credit remaining is), then they will give you enough to get through to your next 'payday'.
  • I have always wondered why the DWP are so reluctant to give out crisis loans seeing as they have to be paid back.

If they were (even) easier to get, they would be (even) more inundated than they currently are. There is simply not enough in the budget.

As for paying it back.....many don't pay it back at all, or only partially.
