The 'old' serial modems are a sqoosh to get working on just about any OS as they're either USR or Hayes compatible at the end of the day.
If modems are your hang-up with this machine there are plenty of options, be they internal PCI, external serial, USB or even network based modem dialers such as the Netgear analogue routers (about a tenner in eBay).
Support for analogue modems is superb on Windows XP. I think someone else said about using the 'Standard' driver which is a safe bet. But specific drivers are many and varied.
I still love the old Hayes Accura kit, with it's funky late seventies design. First modem I ever used was a 2400 baud modem, now that was amazing at the time.
Dre... and that's all I have to say about that.0 -
I keep getting £340 for the PC, what's wrong?0
-
You have to change the warranty to the basic one - it then takes off about £1000
-
Just make sure when you spec the machine to remove the Basic Support package (- £105.75) and go with 1 Year Collect and Return Service instead.

tonyg wrote:Howdie - did you get teh free printer or a free optical mouse may I ask? And which machine did you order - the £246 one?
Thanks
I actually went for a laptop and got both the optical mouse which should still be a valid offer, and the all in one printer (this offer has expired)0 -
You can get an internal modem for this computer from Maplins for £11 plus £2-50 P&P.
Personally I would just add the Dell option it`s only £17 and saves all the hassle.
Of course,if you`re on BB you don`t need the modem anyway.0 -
No-one managed to get the printer or optical mouse on the basic £234 machine?0

I think I just got the printer. It has to processed separately as a goodwill gesture after the original order arrives. But be warned, it took nearly an hour of patient negotiation!0 -

If you were using the 0870 number, and it is the 720 printer, that probably cost more than the printer is worth:eek:
Impressed by your tenacity though0
