I sometimes read a thread and don't comment on it. Then a bit later it pops back into my mind and I've then returned to the thread to comment. Don't always comment then if my point has already been made, depends on my mood at the time. :)

You waited 47 minutes for a response on a Friday evening :rotfl:

You have a fair point in your OP though. When you read some of the tosh that sellers put in their auctions, you could easily assume that they haven't actually realised their responsibilities as a seller ;)
  • Quite honestly, if I read that on another listing, I will scream!

Now look here sellers, the minimum you can put on as a reserve is £50 - I'm sorry but your 99p piece of tat is not going to make that in a million years - stop acting like you are doing us a massive favour!

    Rant over. ;)

I am looking at getting another SLR camera and it is interesting to see the amount of activity auctions that start at 0.99p, some of which say no reserve, generate compared to those that start at £450/£500.
I think it appeals to people because it suggests the chance of getting a bargain.

Personally I find auctions that start at 0.99p and do have a reserve to be more annoying.

I did not know that there was a minimum reserve. So now when I see an item with reserve price then I know it's not worth bidding less than £50 is that right?

  • This thread was useful to me, too, as I didn't know there was a minimum reserve price. I had bid on something yesterday up to around £30 and it didn't sell. Now I don't have to wonder how close I was to hitting the reserve. So thanks, graspthenettle.
  • I didn't know about the minimum reserve either ...

Does anyone know how on an auction starting at 0.99p, with a reserve (don't know how much), just one single bid can take it straight to £99? Doesn't go in increments? Or is it a case of that single bidder has put £99 and that's the reserve?
  • Just as annoying are the listings with a reserve and a BIN for £50

The bid will go to the first possible and lowest bid capable of winning the auction. So if there is only one bidder in a 99p item but with a reserve of £99 the bidder has bid £99 or more.

If that first bidder had only bid say £50 the bid will show as 99p with the notice that 'reserve has not been met' .

Ok, so I had my rant, I feel a lot better for it, obviously no-one else agrees, that's their perogative, so what now? If I hover my cursor over the edit button it says edit/delete but if I click on it, I can just edit - where is the actual delete option?

Blimey, you allowed 47 minutes for us to reply and then threw a strop because no one had. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
