faulty car

i purchased a car from a dealer 4 weeks ago and have had to get some repairs done out of my own pocket,

ball joint was worn out and should not have passed the mot the car came with and also the battery supplied with the car was the wrong type.

i have tried to claim a charge back via natwest but their excuss is that i collected the car in person i am liable not natwest !.

does anyone have the address of where to send the claim form to natwest ?

I'm not sure about the legalities of this but surely a chargeback would not be the right avenue to pursue? That would end up with you having both the car and your money back?

Is this not more of an issue between you and where you bought the car from?

I don't see why its Natwests problem.

So you want a partial chargeback on your original purchase price? I don't think they can do that

I might have this wrong but I thought a chargeback was a way of reversing a charge you had made? I didn't know you could only reverse a small portion of the charge.

However I have no idea either way so if you can then good Luck.

also if you bought the car only 4 weeks ago then it can't have been that long ago when you got the agreement for them to refund £250. I would give them a bit more time to refund, especially when they have said they would.

Was it a full MOT on the car (ie for 12 months)? Not really that important since its illegal for a dealer to sell a car that is not road worthy but MOTs only really prove that on that date, at that time....the car passed the minimum legal requirements. It does cover you for 12 months, but obviously due to their nature.....their fitness for the road can vary over a short space of time (hitting a pothole for example).

You said you attempted a partial chargeback, was this debit card or credit card you paid by? What was the price you paid for the car?

  • All they have to do is say you didn't give them the opportunity to fix it first - you MUST give the garage opportunity to do so.
