I'm guessing you usually win? ;)

most certainly not, we always have a driver out of the two of us so only ever one drinker, plus we are simple folk who often prefer a simple meal.

    It works for us

Ignore the children. You will still be paying less than you would if Grandma wasn't subsidising. It's not worth creating a plan over an extra £10 split my 6 people.

    12 adults including Grandma = £120ish
    2 children - £14
    Drinks x 12ppl or so, with some having a 2nd = £40

I'd say the bill is likely to be around £175.

Take off £100. Grandma has already paid in, and mum's birthday so wouldn't include her for paying. That leaves the remainder (here it is £75, as an example) between 10 adults which is pretty easy (here £7.50)

Alternatively, let the parents pay in a fiver for each kids meal (still subsidised then) which I think would be more fair. Leaving the remainder (now £65 or so) to be split between 10 adults (£6.50) each.

    Neither method would be difficult.

I'm not sure why people are so surprised the OP asked, or shocked. It's an interesting dilemma, and people are interested to think about it and discuss. Personally, I hate going out and subsidising other people's meals from my student loan. Especially when I'm vegetarian, can only afford to eat out twice a year or maybe 3 times, and end up buying the cheapest thing on the menu so I can enjoy it without worrying about money (for food shopping, etc). I also don't tend to drink. Others often have a couple of glasses of mine, and order expensive items (usually vastly more expensive than the cheap veggie dish I get).

I could of course go out only once a year in order to subsidise these people who eat out every other week, but that seems a bit harsh on me.

Also a bit surprised at the people who are aghast at the calculations that would need to be done. None of the suggestions seem to be very difficult. They just take a bit to explain in writing. Even if you can't do calculations very well, it would take OP less than a minute or 2 on the mobile phone to calculate.

And for the person who asked what people did before internet. That's a bit irrelevant. You could say that for every board on here, and the answer would be either - but there is internet or - perhaps she would have discussed it with a friend or similar offline
