Anyone been on a "lads weekend" to Blackpool?

Just managed to prise a bit more info out of my DH about next weekend.
They're staying at the "Vernon Hotel". They're not going into any clubs "because it wastes valuable drinking money" but instead are going into pubs and karaoke bars (apparently). However, the group that DH is going with are all in their 30s and have had their fill of clubbing. As it's a stag do, I believe they are going to a lap dancing club BUT DH knows the rules if he wants to carry on being my DH!
One of the free things that they ARE planning to do is play football on the beach. (after starting to drink at 10am, or whatever the time is when they surface)Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
I have been to Blackpool numerous times on girlie weekends a few years back in my youth (about 4-5 years ago) and absoloutely loved it. My advice would be to book a hotel seperately, if you call Blackpool tourist board they will give you a list of hotels that accept groups. Also, most pubs do let groups in there, it is how they make their cash. So long as they aren't excessively drunk or rowdy they should be fine. I know he is dyslexic but please try to let him go, maybe have a word with one of his mates..one that you know well and put your mind at rest.0

Am I the only one that thinks this seems screens of an adult who's been so wrapped up in cotton wool that he can't go on a drinking holiday without his mum asking advice?
Trip to blackpool:
Book some rooms in a B&B or hostel - find out about what time they stop letting you in at night
Book some train tickets
Get there
Go on the pleasure beach's rides (i think you buy books of tokens)
Go to the pub
Go for a curry
Find a club and drink until the place shuts
Get a Kebab
Stumble back to the B&B
I went there with a group of lads when I was 18, the idea of an organised trip never crossed our mind - we were quite able to entertain ourselves0 -
Hi - thanks for the advice, due note taken (by me at any rate).
Heva - that is a great idea, I will try and get him to do this.
Ringo - I think that is uncalled for. Just because he looks the same as me and you, doesn't mean he can reason and react the same. He doesn't. He takes things at face value and gets ripped off / taken advantage of. He is not as bad as he used to be but it still happens and I like to think of it as looking ahead for pitfalls on his behalf (as most people would be able to do for themselves). And no,he is not "wrapped in cotton wool", I just like the i's dotted and the t's crosed. If he decides to go on this package (which he has found himself), I would not dream of stopping him, I just want him to understand what could go wrong / what he needs to be wary of - all he can see at the moment is the potential for "fun". I am not pouring cold water on his big day, I want him to remember it for the right reasons.
Thanks again, Stella xx0 -
Possibly harsh, but I was going on holiday to spain with friends at 17, by 21 I was planning a 5 week road trip across the USA (the most expensive and fun holiday I think i'll ever have). Yes drinks and clubs are expensive. Yes he may make stupid mistakes. I made stupid mistakes (quite big ones really) on my holidays and i've learnt from them.
He will do stupid things when drunk. As long as his friends are ok and look after one another, they should all be fine, even when doing stupid things.0 -

I have to agree with Ringo.
I have been on stag weekend to Blackpool with B and B booked and then hit pleasure beach etc etc and yes a lap dancing bar as well.
No probs getting in any where.
I cannot see the need to have someone organise things for you.0 -
hey ringo- i wish i was your mum! you sounded streetwise and so grown up at 17- i wish i could let my kids 'go' but mums do worry you know..if my son wanted to go to spain at 17 i wouldn't be able to sleep for a week (that's if i let him go!! hee)0

I'm firm believer in letting people make their own mistakes in life. I do understand what you are saying though Stella, it can be hard to appreciatethough if you have no experience with this type of disability.0

Well, i'd been going away without my parents since I was about 10, with the cubs/school/other youth clubs. I'm hardly 'streetwise' - once when one of my friends got attacked I went over to reason with the kids beating him up (with my hands in my pocket) and ended up with a very bruised face.
I'd agree that blackpool is a bit pants, but it is a laugh and they'll enjoy themselves. Personally I'd go to liverpool as the bars are far, far better and I'd even count it as safer (although i went to uni there so i'm biased)0
