Anyone been on a "lads weekend" to Blackpool?

Hi, son is planning a lads weekend with a few mates in June to celebrate his 21st. He has got a brochure from blackpool-rocks.com and it looks like the type of thing he wants but I want to make sure this firm are OK before they spend their money on it - only one of them works, the rest are students so they don't have a lot of money between them. (I may seem an over protective mother but he is dyslexic and takes everything at face value - if this firm are dodgy, I need to know so we can find another one for him).

Also, if anyone has gone on one before, how much spending money would they need? All they want to do is drink - are the clubs expensive?

TIA, Stella xx

It's a few years since we did something similar and don't know if this still applies but some pubs (not sure about the clubs) would not let in a large group of single sex people.
Since it was a works outing it was hilarious for some of the girls to walk in with one lad at a time then go out again and bring in another one in etc etc.

Would second ejones on that one.

Just got back from a Stag night in Dublin and between 10 of us we arranged which pubs we were going to and split up and went in 2's and 3's staggered.

Never had any probs but saw plenty of other groups of lads being knocked back

My DH is going for a lads weekend (stag do) to Blackpool next week. I'm dreading him going as, well, he's a bit of a lightweight. As it's "out of season", they're staying in a cheap B&B - 16 grown men - near the centre. They are also all putting into a kitty, which I think is £100 for the weekend. All in all, it should cost £150 per person for two nights...... I'm just glad that I'll be on the opposite side of the country..........

i would rather crawl across broken glass than go out on a bender in Blackpool. i read a interview with a pub doorman in Blackpool, he was convinced he had the worst job in the world . with all the glassings , brawls and ASBO groups on the Razz
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Thanks for all the replies - you are all saying what I have been thinking, it is just getting this POV in to son's head - he is like a man on a mission about the whole thing (which is due to the dyslexia). I'm going to look at an alternative for him, not sure what, any ideas gratefully received. He will not have the traditional party (he has completely cut us out of his celebrations) so that is out.

If anyone reading this has any specific experience of Blackpool-rocks.com I would be intrested to hear how it went - they promise guaranteed free entry plus Q jump at 10 clubs / bars and an array of seedy looking "extras" which (mercifully) he can't afford.

    Kids, eh, who'd have 'em?

Stella, is this his (and maybe the other lads) 1st jaunt from home?

I live on the outskirts of Blackpool and it can be very very busy in town at nights. A few of the clubs are quite expensive to get in too so those shoud be avoided. I would try and guide him to a smaller town/venue if you can.

A few larger hotels do an All Inclusive weeknd breaks/stag do's, so it would be a better option financially. They pay for 2 nights and then all the food/drink and entertainment is included.
Never heard of Blackpool-rocks but if you put the link or pm it too me I'll look and see whats on offer, the bars may be damned expensive when you get in.

    Hi Pandas66

His 1st jaunt - yes, of this type. he will be the oldest of the group (he has an older friend who cannot go for some reason which is when I started to have misgivings). One of the group spends part of the year in the USA (dual citizenship) so he is a bit more well-travelled than the rest,

Thanks for your kind offer - this is the link - http://www.blackpool-rocks.co.uk/weekends/index.php?gclid=CNq58a3N9osCFQXolAodzEcSWQ - he is planning the silver package.

I am from Nottingham originally and can well remember how expensive city clubs were when you got in and how they disliked lads groups being in there.

Well the clubs listed are expensive, if you reckon quite a few clubs are free to get in or £2-4 entry after 12am.

They are state of the art (Syndicate) but usually standard entry is £5-15 dependant on time. The drinks in the clubs are ridiculous, £3 a bottle, £3.50/£4.00 a pint.
What would concern me (as a Mum) is the more 'exotic' bars listed! These offer extras as you see, so as ell as over priced drinks there is a lap dance at £5-£15 (or more)
I would try and find him a all inclusive stag weekend away, a weekend in a hotel with everything included.
Don't let him take his c/card!

    Its a moneypit!

there are plenty of hotels/bed and breakfasts that allow groups of lads in- hey its a big money deal for them! i would book independently and tell them to 'do their own thing' these 'organised trips' cost a lot of money. there are lots of places that accept groups of lads, my son stayed at the norbreck to name one. they just went in any pub they fancied without being dragged from pub to pub! these 'organised trips' just want to make as much money as possible!! i would tell him to get a decent hotel, go to tower ballroom bar downstairs(always full of stag and hens), a couple of other pubs and then if he wants to- a nightclub- all under their own steam....

The thing about this company is they don't mention any names of the Hotel accommodation that they use, that makes me suspicious of what kind of Hotel they would put your son in. Most of the Stag & Hen places are very run down due to the type of clients they take in. I would tell him to book his own Hotel & do his own thing at night.
