So, we have a new member of the family, a three year old puggle. We've rehomed him, and he's joined us tonight. He's a great little fella, very loving and docile. He's a bit bewildered, which is understandable, but seems happy enough. Just taken him out for a walk and he's great on the lead, and he's had something to eat. And he's cute as a button! So far so good!

Has anyone else got a puggle, or have experience of the breed? Is there anything we should expect, good or bad...?! He's sat now on the back of the sofa gazing at me as I type this!!! For a chunky boy he's surprisingly agile! :D

Apparently it's another one of these cross-breeds with silly names, a cross between a pug and beagle.

It's impossible to say what to expect as they're not a breed, they're a cross breed, so the dog can take after either the Beagle (hyper, selectively deaf, totally scent led) or the Pug (comical but relatively laid back), or be a mix of both.

I have heard they're very hard to house train, but I have no idea if there's any truth in that.

Yes, ^ that's right! It is a silly name, but it suits him, weirdly. Will try and post a pic, although it's hard to get one as thus far he hasn't sat still.

A bit blurry, but you get the general idea! Misty Blue, I don't have a 'thanks' option for your post for some reason, so thanks!!

As beagles can be prone to back problems if they get too heavy, the same could apply to your crossbreed - so watch his weight!

Yes, we think he could do with losing a few pounds. Will be looking at his diet over the next couple of days.
  • on a positive note, he looks like he has a longer muzzle than a pug so he may not have the breathing/nasal problems that pugs can get.

Well, night one went well! I've just got up and he was fast asleep. nothing has been destroyed, and no 'mess' anywhere. He greeted me very enthusiastically, and seems calm and happy. He gave me a bit of a "what, you want me to go out THERE?" look when I let him out for a wee, cos it's been raining and he apparently doesn't like puddles!!! Wellies on the shopping list today?! (I am kidding!)

No idea about Pugs or beagles, but having taken in a few older dogs myself, I'm always amazed how quickly they fit in and settle down to their new life.

Hope you are both very happy together:D
