Dreadful Car Dealer...

I called Poole volkswagen to enquire about ordering a new golf.

I asked a simple question: is it possible to order the new GT without lowered suspension?

Not only were his answers not related to the question, the answers he gave were incorrect in themselves. :rotfl:

The man proceeded to insist the GT doesn't have lowered suspension (incorrect), and then went on to say that you can adjust the suspension height using "A.C.C." which is included as standard (incorrect, and incorrect again). Not only does A.C.C. have *nothing* to do with height, it is not included as standard.

When I challenged him on everything he said, instead of double-checking, he became defensive, outright rude, wouldn't let me speak, and insisted he was right. I asked him a few times to please double-check for me, he flatly refused.

I asked for his name, and he replied "WHY DO YOU WANT IT?"

I asked to speak to his superior, he refused.

He eventually begrudgingly told me his name was Simon. I had to insist several times that he double-check his info, but he kept replying "I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT SIR, A.C.C. IS INCLUDED AS STANDARD, AND CAN CHANGE THE SUSPENSION HEIGHT. I HAVE IT ON THE SHOWCAR OUTSIDE, SIR." I explained that A.C.C. is a £700 added option, and it does *not* change the height as he claims.

... after 5 minutes of me trying to persuade him to check his info, eventually he said "FINE, I'LL CHECK." and cut me off! he sounded angry and it was obvious he did it deliberately.

I called back and spoke to the deputy manager, but before I had a chance to speak, he said "We always ensure our customers are always given the correct information, sir. I'm afraid the information Simon gave you was indeed incorrect, and this is why he offered to double-check with me."

I explained that Simon had not offered, his attitude was defensive and rude, and that he hung up on me. The deputy manager just replied "I'm sorry you feel that way Sir, but Simon did offer to double-check for you and I'm sure he didn't intend to be rude or to cut you off."

:):T

I told him to listen to the recording of the phone call, and the truth would be revealed.. of course his reply "we don't record calls I'm afraid, Sir."

... and then in the end he was still trying to sell the car to me! Incredible! I told him I would be buying the car, but not from them... of course his reply was "well I'm sorry you feel that way, Sir, but we always provide the best customer service. If you should change your mind, just let me know."... infuriating.

All I wanted was at least some acknowledgement that this guy would be told off for the way he spoke to me, but instead the deputy manager made me feel like he thinks I'm just another rude customer and his staff can't do wrong.

It's actually a big deal... people must end up paying for cars that were not what they ordered. :T Then there's no "proof" as all the advice is verbal  and dealers just deny everything - even when it's right in front of them!

I don't know why I'm getting annoyed - almost all companies seem rude these days... it's down to luck. Having to deal with it a lot of this same treatment from companies lately, I just guess I'm getting a bit worn out. :(

Maybe its you and not them??? :p
  • If it's a £700 extra you should have got it free off Simon.
  • Go to another VW main dealer and see if you can get onto a level of understanding with him.

If you know all the answers then why phone and ask the questions.
If you want to see the car - why not just go down and see it.

Its like walking into mcdonalds and asking the person behind the counter for a full calorific and nutrient breakdown of their burger and the name of the cow it was made from.

Not surprised he got annoyed. Maybe you should have asked what level of biofuel it could run off and the G force exerted when handling the roundabouts of Poole.

I would suspect that OP has no intention (or the money) to buy the car.
  • Wonder how many calls Simon will be getting tomorrow on the back of this thread lol..

Why is that incredible? This is how car dealers make money - they sell stuff.

What do you expect from a thicko in a cheap suit?
Get this all the time. The days are long gone when salesmen knew anything about what they are actually flogging.

    I'm sure I'll get blasted....

Mid Jan I wandered into Maplin on a desperate mission to find something my mother could buy for my birthday that might actually get used. (Don't waste money was apparently not an option).

I entered and someone tried to give me a leaflet that I politely declined.
He then got cheeky and said "So you don't want to see our special offers then"....
    I told him no.....

I then went and looked at the display of special offers and he came up and again tried to make me take a leaflet.....

I told him to leave me alone and his harassment had just cost them a sale....

As I left he was still shouting 'insults' after me and at the same time trying to get me to take a leaflet in case I changed my mind!

Doubtless I'll be told I should have just accepted the leaflet and 'he was only doing his job'.
Personally I chose not to do business with companies where that is 'doing his job'.
  • Why name the guy on here?
