Wheezy, if you feel the odds are stacked, consider putting a toe in the water re a compromise agreement.

If you suspect you are going to be parting company, try and get something from the exit that is a tiny bit more palatable than outright dismissal.

In future join a trade union.

Yes I shall do that. It is all so brutal right now. Thankfully, the person who came in with me on the initial interview is going to attend the meeting with me in the morning. Thank heavens. I really depend on this persons support.

As for joining a union. I dont think I will ever work again as I wont get any references should it go the wrong way.

A compromise agreement should include an agreed reference and gag from disclosing beyond this (gaging would normally extend to you as well though).

  • Wheezy, my husband was in exactly the same position a couple of years ago. He is about the same age as you. He had put blood, sweat and tears into is job and it was clear that they were trying to oust him because he 'knew too much' about their shoddy practices and people saw him as a threat.
    It was devastating.
But, he made like a rottweiler and did not let go. You must do the same. Be calm, forthright and state your case.
DO NOT see this as a forgone conclusion.
I will be thinking of you.
  • Meant to say, it wasn't an ideal ending. However husband and company came to shall we say 'an understanding'
Sort of like a gentleman's agreement where both parties agree that in order to move forward, compromises are to be made.
    Remember that rottweiller Wheezy.
    He is your friend.

Thank you SO much for those words of encouragement. They mean alot to me. The whole thing is churning around in my head and I cant stop thinking of anything else.

On re reading the second letter there were glaring inconsistencies of which I shall bring up in the meeting. I also have drawn up alist of 30-40 other people who regularily commit the same crime as I have been charged with including my line manager. I shall only give that if the investigator demands it. He doesnt of course have to but he has asked me - as my duty no less - to name others in the organisation. Hes at the top of the list. So, that makes for very interesting reading. Taking into consideration that he may well have made his mind up on his investigations. I of course am not allowed the same privilege.
The suspension practice is loaded towards the employer 100%. It is sickening really to think that some people think that this practice is totally acceptable and that en employee has to just lie down and let the organisation run rough shod without any compunction or real understanding of whats it like to be on the other side of 'company policy' etc.

Thank you for that information. I read it with great interest. However, until tomorrow I dont know which way its going to go. I think I know - but in reality I dont. The feeling of negativity is very prevalent and I cant shake off this dreading sense of doom. But that link was most helpful.

I have already mentioned this but Wheezy you really should be looking into this. You can get an agreed reference as part of this for future employment.
