Which is exactly what I thought, just wondered if there was any other reason.0 -
Buy some old non working laptops and oops a pipe bursts and leaks on all of them.
They have a look and find signs of previous work or missing parts, Or inspect the drive and see its not worked for many months with lots of fault logs.
Time for a closer look at this claim. They may also think what are you hiding on this hard drive? Letters/Emails about scamming insurance companies on a laptop claim?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
format the drive in an extermal caddy. the hd belongs to the machineDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

hello
ive been put in touch with them through my contents insurance company, they are saying the only way they can process my claim is if ive send my hard drive in with my laptop which i am unwilling to do.
ive read reports on here that they will sell any parts that work hen a laptop is inspected and classed as 'beyond economical repair', ive got bck in touch with my insurance company and they agree with be-valued.
any ideas on what to do next, apart from sending them my harddrive
cheers
Honestly!!
No insurance company is going to sell on your hard drive!! Can you imagine the press they'd get if your photos/details turned up with someone else? Think it's worth the £2.50 they'd get for the second hand HD?
They just want the HD in so they can see when it was last used. If you've nothing to hide there's nothing to worry about0 -
That is like saying no food manufacturer would pass off horse meat as beef.....imagine the uproar their would be......oh wait. Insurers sell off items all the time, it's called salvage and helps to recover some costs. Now I accept I have no idea what they do with computers and stuff but I can guarantee that they don't get incinerated or sen to landfill.0

You have you no idea what happens to them but can guarantee that they are not sent to landfill? Strange.0 -
Have you asked them if you can take it to a local computer shop instead to get it independently inspected? They may go for this, or they may stick to their guns, especially if they think it may be a fraudulent claim.
If they don't go for it, your options are
1) Send them the laptop with the hard drive
2) Raise a formal complaint, allow them 8 weeks to reply (see if they change their mind), if they still won't allow you to keep the HDD, you can escalate to the FOS who will take 6-9 months minimum to review your claim - and there's every chance they'd agree with More-Than.
3) Withdraw the claim and deal with it yourself0 -
Out of interest how old is the macbook0
