Be-valued, laptop repair

hello

ive been put in touch with them through my contents insurance company, they are saying the only way they can process my claim is if ive send my hard drive in with my laptop which i am unwilling to do.

ive read reports on here that they will sell any parts that work hen a laptop is inspected and classed as 'beyond economical repair', ive got bck in touch with my insurance company and they agree with be-valued.

any ideas on what to do next, apart from sending them my harddrive :)

cheers

  • Insurers are allowed to keep written off goods to sell for scrap or to refurbishers (they do it with cars all the time).

What kind of hard drive and what kind of claim are we talking about here?
  • thanks for the reply.

i spilt tea on my apple macbook last week and now it wont switch on. ive told them i wont be sending them my hard drive and they are refusing to inspect my laptop.

Do you not know anyone who has a macbook or another Mac machine to move over your personal stuff.
  • aye but they are not to keen about putting my HDD in their laptop when i spilt tea all over my machine.

plus there is ways people can access what is on my HDD, if it still works and they sell it on.

    cheers

    Yes I'm aware of that,
  • so would you transfer all your data over then send your HDD off to an insurance company knowing if it still worked they would sell it on?

Buy a 2nd hand drive and fit that?

But a great big electric magnet to erase your drive. Nothing is recoverable after that.

The reason our supplier insists on the hard drive being present is so they can check the last used time to make sure it's not a laptop that's been dead for 10 months.

They never ever sell on hard drives either.

And what if they find it has been "dead" for 10months?

Then they will query the incident with the thought of fraud on their mind.
