I would like to gauge people's opinions on the following :-
Would you be happy to pay a yearly fee of let's say £4.99 to have your mobile number put on a master do not contact list that will then be sent around to UK Companys to lower the amount of calls and text messages you receive - Also with this in mind would you be happy to pay £9.99 to have all of your details added to such a list including email, home phone number and also home address.
My idea is to have this list sent to all reputable UK based Company's and in-turn lower the amount of spam messages and unwanted phone calls.
Please do not say the TPS is here to prevent such marketing as they are nye on useless and just get a large amount of cash per anum to distribute amoungst the board of Directors who do very little as far as I can tell to actually prevent this from happening.
The reason behind such a fee would be to cover all cost's required and as and when the site gained more users this cost could be reduced in line with the amount of people paying for such a service.
Any thoughts here on this will help in setting this up.

No - sorry - I'm out on this one.
If I get a nuisance caller, I usually just tell them not to ring again then I add them to the call blocking list on my phone. The same goes for nuisance texts.
I can't see any point in paying for a service unless it has some sort of regulatory powers to force companies to adhere to an individuals contact wishes.0 -

The idea behind paying a fee here is that any reputable UK based Company would be more than happy to have a master do not contact list as they would save money on pointless marketing either by phone or sms message and the individual who pays for this service would cut down the volume of spam they receive - Not all handsets have a facility to block sms messages and or certain phone calls, You could of course red button them but the idea is to save as much unwanted marketing as possible.YOLO0 -

The people you want to stop ringing are the UNreputable ones which wouldn't use the system.
I'm afraid I'm with Tony on this one and I too am outIt's not just about the money0 -
I'm sure these "reputable companies" (ie spammers) would pay loadsamoney for this list. Lots of nice active numbers to phone and text:D
Spammers know people hate them hassling them but they still do it.
Genuinely reputable companies do not make nuisance calls and hassle people because of the reputational risk.
No one in their right mind would give their phone number willingly to these spammers, but to ask them to pay £5 for the privilege of putting their name on a spammers list is beyond belief........0 -
I think thats the problem with the idea ...... It's not the reputable companies thats the problem it's the ones such as "had an accident in the last 12 months" thats the problem.

I can see what you are saying here and would like to stop these scammers as much as the next man.
I would think that if this gained momentum then more Company's would come on board wether they be reputable or not as any Company paying a person to make phone calls and or send out a sms messages that are unwanted is a waste of money to them - Long term I think it may well work.YOLO0 -

I take it you did not read the opening message then as this is being aimed as a spam prevention tool and not a list that would be sold on to dodgy marketing Company's.YOLO0 -
This won't work. Reasons as given above.0

Of course I read your opening post, but I don't think you read mine properly.
Just to spell things out again.
By definition, reputable companies do not spam, hassle, harass, make nuisance phone calls etc etc. This sort of behaviour severely damages a company's reputation.
By definition, companies that engage in the above are dodgy (and have no reputation to lose).
If you have a list of names, numbers, email addresses etc, these dodgy companies would pay good money to get their hands on it.
They would consider it to be a "suckers list" - people stupid enough to try to pay to avoid being hassled by spammers. Anyone on this suckers list would get even more phone calls because the spammers would consider them to be especially gullible.
Therefore paying for the privilege of going on a suckers list (thereby getting extra nuisance calls and texts), would be the height of stupidity (as the spammers well know).0 -

And how can you stop 'reputable' companies selling the list to other companies?

Get a copy of the list ...ring them all up point out it obviously doesn't work and offer them a better service for £9.99.
This time next year Rodders :beer:It's not just about the money0
