Bloomin eck!
Skirting is dirt cheap and can be fitted without hiring a mitre saw just by using a mitre block and a standard saw, corners always need a small amount of wood filler to make perfect anyway.
As for the plastering -That price is a joke!0 -
Jesus Christ  How much0

I'm based in North Cheshire - thanks for confirming my original thoughts that the price was too high. He wanted over £ 1100 to replace skirtings in three bedrooms - I'm now going to do that myself for under £ 200 including hiring a saw to mitre the boards correctly which should save a few bob.
Mate... get in touch with me Ill do it at a reasonable price

If you are doing the skirting yourself why not buy a run of the mill mitre saw instead of hiring.
I got one from B&Q cheap but does the job.
There is one in screwfix for £25 with a 210 mm blade.
I have done my whole house with mine.
Each room costs about £20-£30 for the skirting, torus from B&Q.
It is worth having a go and if you !!!! it up you havent lost a great deal.0 -
I have also started doing my own plastering after having my fingers burnt recently with a plasterer doing first job dirt cheap then basically robbing me on the next one (£260 for 6 hours work).0

I don't know if he wore spurs or not! I am in London and actually trying to help get my parents house done up. This guy did some work up the road a few years back so his name stuck in my mind and I gave my mum a schedule of works to give him - and then he gave her a quote - and boy, what a quote! I have done the skirting for her in the hall and landing before and used the mitre box. It seems like I am going to have to do the skirting myself in the bedrooms to save some more money - last time i used a mitre box which was ok but reckon using a saw will be quicker and give a better finish. We are going for a modern straight edged skirting - i think 2 by 9 cm approx - so a timber merchants can deliver that i reckon in 16ft lengths. Oh - and we have a new plasterer coming round today to quote!!0
