Okay... It was my fault I know, I wasn't paying attention and just saw the word 'diesel' and grabbed it, so instead of paying the 142pence per litre I actually filled up with shell premium stuff at 150ppl.
So not sure what to expect from my premium quality supply of juices I started the engine in anticipation.. Hoping a genie would pop out of the ignition barrel. Although this didn't happen, but maybe all is nt lost... Maybe my injectors will turn to gold ? So what have I just paid an extra £3 for? Better mpg? cleaner emissions? Will it actually benefit my car in anyway? Or have I just donated £3 to them?

£3 donation. I wouldn't think a single tank would make that much difference. I suspect they claim you have to use it all the time to get any benefit (such as keeping the injectors cleaner or something)
I wouldn't have thought it'll make any difference to performance either. The ECU operates in strict tolerances so unlikely to to shift it too much from the usual.
On the other side, you do now have a car full of super strength power fuel so feel free to feel like you are in diesel Le Mans car once you hit the motorwayWhat if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Monitor your MPG see if you notice any difference. Some people say they feel a performance difference too.0

If your car is not mapped to take advantage of premium fuel then there will be no advantage.
If your car is mapped to take advantage of premium fuel then there will be an advantage.

If you car as knock sensor (most will now a days) the extra burn the fuel can now do will allow the knock to adjust the timing thus giving more bang per £.
Has for the 1 tank remark, the knock sensor will sense it immediately.0 -

Its a diesel though so probably even less difference.
Most rolling road guys will tell you that less than 10% difference and you wont notice on a normal or even a fast drive.
Shame they didnt do timed runs with the different fuels. Rolling start in one gear to cancel out the gear changes.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Missing the point, its there so people like me with a a fully expensed fuel card don't have to be delayed queueing up behind you penny pinchers

Rubbish. Sorry but did you even watch your supporting video?
Did you note that they made sure the fuels did not mix in the tank? I bet the OP hasn't installed a seperate tank in their car so no, one tank won't make a difference as it will be a mix for a very long time.
2nd the VW does seem to make more power but a lot of cars will not instantly step up. I know for a fact putting 95 RON petrol in a Subaru for example will cause the car the retard the ingnition and take some power out to protect the engine.
Because you can't flush the fuel lines like in the test you showed it takes the car a long time to trust the fuel again and regain that loss.
3rd, the OP has a diesel anyway, not a petrol like in your vid and you have no other cles about their car so to claim they'll be able to feel an instant hike in power (when the test show it is just 3 bhp on the petrol) is twaddle. You might as well blow on the inside of the widnscreen. Indeed, you' probably get the same power boost by losing a bit of weight. You'd be healthier and richer into the bargain.

It doesn't work the same on a diesel.....
My old race tuned 306 used to splutter on 95 (noticeable flat spots) and drive nicer on 97... but better on 98 when it was back in its homeland....
On a track it was a different car again with 105 octane....(after about 10 minutes of a reasonably empty tank being mixed with track 105)
My current car is a remapped 330D (2006).
As it happens I was almost empty last week (waiitng to see if Sainsbury's gave me a 12p/l off) and petrolprices.com sent me to a garage that turned out to be more expensive for budget diesel than the app said .....(Well can't always be spot on.... not a complaint)
My usual commute I get 50mpg .(in optimum traffic)... so I decided to see what I could get with V-Power.... (as an experiment)
So far I have had meetings at the wrong time..(I usually go in at 06:00 and come home at either 16:00 or 19:00 to avoid traffic and working at home)...but I'm hovering closer to 45 MPG on each trip...
I can't see optimum beating the 50-51 target I usually set..
Even if it does it's possibly only going to be 1MPG or so.....so not economic on the price of fuel....
However, it might be doing some extra cleaning that extends the fuel filter, injectors etc? I can't SEE?????
As for the clean tank/fuel lines?
Yes, if you keep switching petrol the ECU is constantly remapping and in a lot of ways it is better to keep to a single fuel grade. If you switch to 97 (or Tesco 98) the fuel gets mixed and the ECU retunes and its just about stable and trusting again then you switch back to 95.....0
