My DH cleared out the shed for me at the weekend. It was raining and cold and he did 2 tip runs too. DD asked if I was getting him a card and I said there was no need to show it one day a year when you show it all the time. She asked why and I said "love is, clearing out the shed when you don't want to because it will make your other half happy". I think she gets it now :)

We've exchanged cards, and his was thoughtful with a photograph that was pretty much the view from our hotel window a couple of weeks back. We go out for meals lots - I have a part time job as a restaurant reviewer - so I got some nice food in which we will cook together tonight. We have a very small kitchen so that should be quite romantic.

We do say I love you pretty much every day of the year and think about one another, put one another first and do things for one another all year around, but it doesn't harm to have a day to make a bit of extra fuss.

My sister, who is single, and I always buy one another Valentine's gifts. We just spend a couple of quid and it would be something the other would like rather than something with hearts and flowers, although she does like hearts and flowers. Previous years when I have been single I or other friends have arranged nice stuff to do, like going to the cinema as a mixed group of singles.

    I like Valentine's Day.

Ive made DH a coffee cake as its his favourite and DD (5) made some cupcakes which we covered in butter icing and used smarties to spell out LOVE! which she gave to daddy and grandad as they are doing some DIY this week :)

DH after realising its valentines day (forgets every year . . . and our anniversary ;)) went out to get some more DIY stuff and came back with a bag of malteser easter bunnies :rotfl:

I know he loves me, he wouldn't have spent the last 4 days gutting half the house because I want it redecorated if he didnt :)

I've been a single parent for just over 8 years so today I have made my sons' favourite tea. I've also just finished icing two dozen heart shaped biscuits for them!

That is awful, I hope you are able to make him feel better, awful

Thanks for the thoughts everyone - as it happens dinner was perfect. I set up a table / chairs / candles in the garden and the moment OH sat down our younger dog jumped straight into my chair so it was like they were on a date together! He refused to leave my chair so I shared with him through the meal, very well behaved though and didnt try to steal any food :) Was hilarious and cheered everyone up.
