Setting Up Windows 7 - updates etc

ninite is my first port of call after installing the OS .
Just make your choice and it will instal the latest versions , no spam and no problems .0 -
It's installed 6 or 7 for me - had a problem with a couple and couldn't install. Probably related to my issue, but it's saved me some time with the other things!
EDIT - Tried again after PC restart and it's installed the others.0 -
I've just updated a whole bunch of PCs to Windows 7 SP1 and Office 2010, and was presented with 135 updates plus 7 optional ones after the two installs!
The only way I could get the updates to install was to select about 30 at a time, letting them install and doing the usually-required reboot, and install another 30, and so on until none was left.
I could find no obvious reason for this unusual behaviour.0 -
When one of these apps fails to install, do you see a little blue+yellow shield icon in your taskbar? If you do, try clicking on it and see what happens...0

I ran the FixIt for the error 0x80072ee2 on the first few PCs, but it didn't seem to make any difference. After the first few Windows 7 upgrades, I just selected a small group of updates each time, and eventually they all went through, as I indicated previously!0

Sorry, my reply was aimed at the OP trying to install downloaded software.0

I had to install them in batches of 4 or 5, but they all installed other than the .net framework.
I left it this afternoon with someone home and it installed after around 2.5 hours.
I've come home to more updates! They seem to install but they take an age. Soem programs would not install at all, but wallbash's program sorted that. When one of these apps fails to install, do you see a little blue+yellow shield icon in your taskbar? I did a couple of times. It took me to the windows update screen that told me I had updates waiting or they had failed.
The shield always appears on the shut down menu.0 -
That's telling you that you have to re-boot so that system files can be up-dated. Perfectly normal since they can't be up-dated if they are being used by Windows!
When I do shut down, it says installing update (number) of (number) and takes hours. I know sometimes that is normal, but this .net framework was a nightmare.
It's sorted now, although current updates have been 16% for the last hour0 -
Ahh yes, windows installer will refuse to let you install stuff, software and updates, if there is an update that needs a reboot.
Let it get all its reboots out of the way and things should start behaving.0
