Help with transferring old phone

Hi, I have a relative who has a new phone and would like to give their older iphone 4 to my teenager. Apart from cleariing their data, is there anything we need to do apart from getting a sim only deal with one of the providers.

If changing provider, you may need to unlock the phone.
Teenager and a contract SIM-are you sure about that? It's basicallly a credit card with no limit.

Your relative just needs to ask the existing network to unlock it, and pay the unlock fee of around £15.

The unlock is activated by connecting to iTunes after the network has processed the request.

What network is it on, and what network are you migrating to?

  • the iphone4 was on O2 and relative has now got an iphone5 and is still on O2 with the same number. She does not know what she has to do now in order to give the phone to nephew.

If the Nephew is going to use O2 then just pass it on to him ....If the Nephew is going to be using a different network then she needs to get the phone unlocked for him
It's not just about the money

Good point as you mention it ;)

Do you know if the phone is "locked" ...quite often a phone sold on a network plan such as O2 would be locked to that network ...however it may have been purchased unlocked already in which case no need to bother.

The Tesco sim should work in a O2 phone as far as I'm aware they use the O2 network
