No, they haven't. Booking on the Dreamliner is not "an upgraded flight", it's just another ticket in economy (or whatever class you've bought a ticket).

Dreamliner plus hotel A is more expensive than Boeing plus hotel A. People are paying a premium for this new plane. Also it's sold as having roomier seating in both classes.
  • I don't buy this b/s that you'd be fine flying in a Dreamliner but not in any other aircraft.
Where did they say this?! What the OP said is that they have been told the Dreamliner would make the flight more confortable and for someone with a fear of flying everything helps.
    Anyway, i read this today...

For the amount they have hyped up this aircraft its stuff all really...

The butler service, turn down service & pillow menu clinched it for me. Where are you going & where did you go?
I was in the Grand Sirenis in Mexico.
Iberostar Maya in Mexico and we've booked the Iberostar Punta cana in DR, but hoping to upgrade to the Bavaro when we get there as you can only book it as part of a package with Thomas Cook and they don't fly when we want to go.

I was looking at the GBP amber plus Dreamliner with Thompson or the GBP esmerelda with Thomas Cook - I get a discount with TC. Plus premium with TC Worked out a little less than economy-Dreamliner with Thompson, plus the esmerelda scored just a smudge higher - because it's newer.

Dreamliner IS a Boeing! Seriously, if people are paying premium for the Dreamliner it's their own problem, as has been pointed out several times, aircraft type is never guaranteed when buying a ticket. This is much ado about nothing.

I do apologise to the OP.It was not clear to me that you were paying more to fly on a Dreamliner than on another type of AC. So the company definatly should refund you the difference that they charge for this.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I'm sorry but if you believe oxygen levels on the plane are going to stop jet lag you'll believe anything. No idea how that even links to jet lag in anyone's mind!

You should be entitled to get a partial refund if you paid for premium economy/ business class or something like that that the plane you do go on doesn't have, but I can't see a reason why you would get anything else back. Unless there were flights on 'normal' planes that left at the exact same time for a cheaper price when you booked it perhaps.

As other posters have said, you should be able to get a refund of any premium you paid for flying on the Dreamliner, but nothing more. It'll be in the T&C'S that they can change airline/aircraft etc. but chase the refund for the Dreamliner premium.
have you seen the benefits they are offering, maybe the person who sold us the holiday was just a really good sales person. I certainly bought the whole idea of the Dreamliner, better oxygen levels so no jet lag, wherever you sit on the plane you have a view out a window (although you could say that on any plane depending on how you squint) Mood lighting to mimic daylight, again to help with jet lag, seats with back rests you can plug you ipod or games console into..

I'm sorry but nearly all of that is Thomson/Boeing marketing hype that you've fallen for. Obviously being a brand new aircraft it will have a nice feel about it and everything will be new, with the latest systems etc, but much of it is hype. Seeing out a window wherever you sit? Really?! And the more oxygen thing... Is that proven? Does it affect everyone in the same way? How do they know that?

Sorry, although its shiny and new, it's still a pressurised metal tube flying through the sky packed full of seats. Nothing more, nothing less.

And if you are such a bad flyer.... Would you rather be on a standard Thomson aircraft (767), a proven design that's been in service for decades, or brand new 787 that's had to be completely grounded less than 18 months after entering service?

Give Thomson their due, this isn't their fault. They've been let down massively by their supplier (Boeing). At the moment Boeing have no idea when they can get the current Dreamliners flying again, let alone new ones that haven't been delivered yet.... Thomson will be waiting on info from Boeing, and until they get that they can't update passengers.

PS. Thomsons long hail 767s aren't even that bad, in fact they're pretty good.

Even more worrying than batteries that appear to catch fire, the plane isn't a metal tube, it is plastic, that is why it is so fuel efficient, it weighs less! I just remember what happened to my plastic (admittedly not the same type of plastic) Airfix planes when I dropped them.... I would happily take the refund and a lovely 767 any day
  • To be honest, as lovely as the 787 is (I've flown Air India's), they aren't that big of an improvement of Thomson's current 767's, which are already of a pretty high standard.
