Surely Thomson would have to offer some kind of compensation to use a normal plane of offer to change the holiday if you don't want to fly long haul in one of their normal airplanes?
And here lies the real reason of your "fear of flying". You are looking for an angle to get some compo. An airline can change an aircraft for "operational reasons" and you have no chance of compo because of it.
Got to hand it to you though, only 2 posts and already using this forum like a pro;)
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • Thanks everyone for your posts, I had a mixture of laughs and gasps.. Sorry Stoneman, what I should have said is if Thomson are going to only offer us another plane and not the Dreamliner or option to change our holiday then we surely should be in line for a partial refund, not compensation as they are charging extra for the comfort of the Dreamliner compared to their charges for flying on a Boeing 737 or 747 to the same destination.. I honestly did book to go on this plane for the comfort, have you seen the benefits they are offering, maybe the person who sold us the holiday was just a really good sales person. I certainly bought the whole idea of the Dreamliner, better oxygen levels so no jet lag, wherever you sit on the plane you have a view out a window (although you could say that on any plane depending on how you squint) Mood lighting to mimic daylight, again to help with jet lag, seats with back rests you can plug you ipod or games console into.. It all sounded a perfect way to start the holiday with all the excitement of being on a new plane to help take your mind of flying that distance. So leason learnt, read the smaller than small print in future that tells you, you might be on a Boeing 707 rather than the airplane of the future you signed up for :)

Do oxygen levels have an effect on jet lag ? Even, as you say, prevent it all together ? I always thought it was due to the different time zones around the world. Silly me !

There's not much to see out of a plane window once you've taken off either. Most Ipods and games consoles would last a lengthy flight without needing to be plugged in anywhere. See where i'm going with this ?

I think the sales person had you hook line and sinker to be honest. I'd rather pay less and have more spending money when i get there.

Totally unfair, they've paid a premium for an upgraded flight, they are entitled to the product or a refund/compensation.

I considered delaying my October holiday to November when the Dreamliner starts flying to the Dom Rep to use the Dreamliner, I didn't I decided to upgrade on a standard flight & still save a few quid & get the hotel I really wanted (a Thomas cook holiday). But I would be peeved if I had paid for it & wasn't getting it.

We're flying back from DR on nov. 1st, hopefully on a Dreamliner. First Choice have said if it's not a Dreamliner then they'll refund the difference between normal Premium Economy and the extra we paid for PE on the new plane. Did you go to Mexico last year MrsE? We did, we must like similar places. Where are you staying in DR?

The Grand Bahia Principle Esmerelda, it's number 4 or 5 out of about 200 hotels in Punta Cana.
  • It's in the T&Cs that they can change the plane.

I don't buy this b/s that you'd be fine flying in a Dreamliner but not in any other aircraft.

You should get a refund for the upgrade if it is not possible on the alternative flight. I doubt they will refund anything else, but we'll have to wait until the investigations are completed or they make a statement.

No, they haven't. Booking on the Dreamliner is not "an upgraded flight", it's just another ticket in economy (or whatever class you've bought a ticket).

The butler service, turn down service & pillow menu clinched it for me. Where are you going & where did you go?
I was in the Grand Sirenis in Mexico.
