Light Bulbs

To add a positive note, isn't it fantastic how energy efficient light bulbs are these days? A 60w incandescent bulb costs about £15 a year to run, but an LED one under £2 by comparison. They often come with five year guarantees too. So a £10 bulb saves £75 over five years. Show me a bank account where I can earn that sort of return?!0

I use incandescent in a hall and a cupboard. Both places where I want full light immediately but the light never stays on for more than a couple of minutes.
LED light bulbs give full light instantly. I switched some kitchen lights from 50W halogen to 4W led which were same brightness as the halogens were old and lost their full output (while probably still using the full power and wasting money).
Not sure if I'm allowed to put a link on I was given a discount code savemoney10 for ecosave website that gives 10% off Philips LED bulbs.0 -

I agree but as the bulbs in question were in places where they are only on for a few minutes a month it would take decades to recoup the cost of LED's.
I'm very much looking forward to the time when LED's become so cheap (including the dimmable ones) that they can be used exclusively. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
The poundshops already have the very lowest wattage LED bulbs, so hopefully won't be too long...0

This may be true but I bet they dont have all the required certification and id be suprised if they operate at the correct lumen.
I purchased a 4 way socket from poundland, that melted, and found out it was not made to British standards.

I've got a few 3W GU10 LED spotlights from Ebay which have worked fine for over a year. They were around 4 quid each when I bought them.
However, the colour of the light is different to the traditional GU10 and may not look right in some places. If you want something that looks virtually identical to a normal GU10 bulb then take a look at the 5W COB LED bulbs from Toolstation. They're more expensive at just under a tenner but they look really good.

Ever since I've had low energy bulbs it is much more like once per year. This implies they last around 12 times as long. And much less faff.
If only sadly I'm in local authgority accommodation. We get regular paweer cuts because the wirin was installed by cowboy electricians. (They were instructed by a cowboy local authority, with some pretty questionable building inspectors.)
Even now it takes 4 times as lons as expected to do any maintenance work because this property defies all legislation. (nb I know nothing about the construction laws other that what council employees have told me.)0
