Not a rant as such, more of a musing - since when did it cost so much for a blimmin light bulb? Theres none in Morrisons priced under around £1.60. 12 years ago when I lived in an army quarter in Pirbright I remember buying a box of lightbulbs from asda for less then £3, this was about 22ish saver lightbulbs. What I find strange is that previously I have purchased energy savers for mere pennies- where have all the cheap light bulbs gone?

The bulbs in recent times were often subsided by energy companies, this I believe stopped

Mortgage-free Glee! Hung up my suit! Xmas Saver!
Either subsidised or they were old bulbs (the ones that take for ever to warm up) that were being sold as the more efficient energy saver bulbs were avaiable.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • I still have in a drawer somewhere the free lightbulbs I was sent by both my electricity and Gas suppliers a few years ago.

If that's happening you're either buying dodgy bulbs or need your home wiring checking out.

Particularly from a visit to Tesco:-

The "Value" bulbs were £2.89 each and claimed to last 5 years, the others were £3.50 and claimed to last 10 years. I could have bought about 40 incandescent bulbs for that price.

Incidentally, that thread seems to have been censored as I see that I made a reply to someone who statedthat they had paid £8 for one Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL). My HOW MUCH post remains but the poster with more money than sense had disapeared. Upset the mod did they?
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.

As each incaandescent bulb uses up to 10 times the electricity, I wonder how much the running costs of the 40 bulbs would have been.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Not had an energy saving bulb blow ( have had to replace maybe 1 or 2 but not done that for at last 2 years. ) nor takes an age to light up the room, yes it does take maybe a minute for there to be decent light.
