Hi All,
OH and I were looking at getting a new car so on Saturday we popped along to Renault as we liked the look of the new clio. The idea was to just LOOK as we wanted to see what is was like size wise.
Anyway, as you can guess looking turned to purchasing! We have order the one down from the top model, with added extra of parking sensors and some paint protection stuff (g3 I think its called?) which we have to pay extra for. Purchasing the car new is actually going to save us over £100 a month as our car at the mo is an old gas guzzler.
Any ho, we have paid a £250 deposit, but no finance agreement has been signed yet, we have agree'd finance on the full price (minus 2000 part ex for our car)--- Have we made a mistake in not hagggling them on the price of the new car? it all happened quite quickly we didn't even thing about it really and now everyone we speak to has said we should call up and say we want some money off or we will cancel the order...
OH and I are not very good hagglers, our theory is if we like something and can afford it why would we need to haggle??
But we are really trying to cut cost of stuff this year as we want to save to move.
Now we have signed the order etc is too late to haggle?

Not sure if a troll's post or not.
A salesman's dream.
However, cancel the order, forego the deposit if necessary, go home, engage your brain, do some research on prices, examine nearly new etc.
No one ever saved money buying a new car.0 -
If it's a new model, I doubt you will get much off the list price anyway. Have you owned a Renault before? If not, I would do some research!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

im not a troll, promise.
I have had a renault before and it was fine.
The Finance is £15 more then what we were paying on our old car, but road tax is £30 instead of £260+ and our old car was a 2Litre SXT auto so was pretty thirsty...this is a 0.9l eco car with 4years warranty and 4 years free servicing. plus the cheaper insurance
Anyway OH has phoned and spoke to them this morning and is waiting for someone to call him back....0 -

alright alright so we are not confident at asking for money off....I am sure we are not the only ones!0

So they offered you £2000 for your old car - what make, model, year and mileage is this car?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Pity you did not try DrivetheDeal before taking the plunge.
£1450 off the model you want. No haggling book over the internet or by phone.
Supplied by a UK Dealer and delivered.

Its a dodge calibre, but the body work is not good (dent, key scratch etc) we are going to put it in auto trader as is to see if we can get a bit more.
Oh has spoken with the dealership now and apparently as its a brand new model there is a ban on offering any kind of discount (OH said someone else we knew had ordered the same car but got a discount) So they were keen to find out who the discount was with!0 -
In future you need to exercise a bit of willpower in situations like this, particularly when there are large sums of money involved, rather than meekly letting a car salesman basically steamroll over the top of you.
Unless you're an extremely wealthy person buying a brand new car isn't small potatoes and not something to be done on the spur of the moment without research.
If you visit a dealership to "look" at the new Clio, look at it then remove yourself from the often high-pressure sales situation so that you can consider how to proceed in peace and quiet.
Renault will be selling these things for quite some time so there's no rush.0 -

Can we have the details of the deal please?
Model of new car
Options added and cost - metallic paint? etc
Dealer fitted options added and cost - parking sensors, paint protection etc?
Details of your car. Year, model, miles, engine type, MOT, etc. Price offered for your car?
I'm a motor trader, so i can sift through what you're being offered (as can others on here)0
