I'm talking about the latest Focus, which isn't a revamp

Must admit i was surprised when it launched that it did not have them.

There must be some loop hole they have used not to put them in.

However if the transit is anything to go by they are just going to turn the headlights on automatically, which is very lazy of Ford.

Judging by the current bad weather and the amount of cars now running around with just their front DRLs on (without any rear lights), it seems to me that DRLs have presented more of a problem than they have 'solved'. Although the front of the car is clearly visible and the driver is under the illusion he/she has got their lights on, the rear of the car is almost invisible against the spray it is leaving behind.

Perhaps there needs to be a light-awareness course bought in for such drivers or they should get a bit of training on how to switch on their normal lights when taking delivery of their new car.

Is it really drl's that are the issue or the fact dashboards now tend to automatically light up the dials in low light?

I see plenty of people driving around with no lights on, especially coming out of lit car parks, and it's apparent from the "glow" the internal dash is lit up.

If they couldn't read the dash you'd hope they'd work out the lights are not on.
  • No I have not noticed that. My car has daytime running lights but they switch off when headlights go on automatically.

My headlights are fine and do go on even if not 'that' dark.

When I first got the car I did worry that the automatic headlights would not be good enough, that it would have to be quite dark before they turned on but so far they have been fine.

Even though lights are automatic I do check the dash to make sure they are on and not just assume they will be.

No, I don't believe it is. I believe it is simply down to incompetent/poor drivers.

I now have a car with auto lights/wipers etc and a fancy dash. BUT my instruments and warning lights tells me that I have my side lights and head lights on (indicated by green symbols). I have lights to show that I have my front or rear fog lights on and even have a nice blue light to tell me that I have my main beam on. In fact both cars I drive plus my work vehicle have all these functions.

If non of those warning lights are on, I get a clue that the corresponding exterior lights are also not on. Surely EVERY car (even those with DRLs) have similar features?

Well.... Count up how many drive at 42mph on every single road, the same idiots are usually those driving with no lights on in poor conditions.
If they can't read a f**king road sign, I doubt they know what the lights on the dash mean at all. :rotfl:

But no doubt in certain day time conditions you would have to actually switch on your headlights on manually. What i'm getting at is that i've seen loads of 'new' cars driving around in these current poor weather conditions with only the DLRs on and nothing on at the rear.

As I have said my lights seem to be quite sensitive so do come on even in conditions that some may not think they are needed.

I do check the dash regularly though to see if light symbols are on,if they weren't and I felt headlights were needed then yes I would 'manually' put my headlights on. I don't think I have ever really needed to do that though.

If there are people out there that just rely on dlrs then they need a slap. It may well be that they do not have their headlights set to automatic and just don't manually put their lights on or in fact think there lights are automatically on when clearly they are not.

Before dlrs were available I used to see loads of people driving with no headlights on which is more or less the same thing!
