If it's by law then why are manufacturers only fitting them as standard on on their higher trim levels, for example, you have to go to Titanium X spec to get them as standard on a Focus according to the current brochure which I have in front of me.

Because the law only applies to new models introduced after February 2011....
    Legislation and requirements:

Vehicle manufacturers must fit DRL to new types of passenger car and light goods vehicle (car derived vans) type approved to European vehicle requirements from February 2011

. In practice this means that any new model launched after this date, and many launched before, will be fitted with DRL.

As pointed out above, DRLs don't have to be ultra bright LED lamps. LEDs are used because they use less electricity, therefore less fuel.
  • Because the lower models have dipped-beam systems designed to remain on continuously in lieu of dedicated daytime running lights.

Ah, so really it's nothing new,Volvo have been doing that for years, so, there is no real need for manufacturers to use these tacky LED things that look like they've been bought from Halfords.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

When was the latest Focus introduced?

I find it cringeworthy when I see a battered old transit van that has had DRL's fitted by the owner.

    Looks really cool

As for rain-sensitive wipers I've never been able to get my head around the idea that such things are necessary to eliminate a driver having to push a stalk on one side of the steering column when water droplets begin appearing on their windscreen, given that they're presumably pushing the stalk on the other side constantly in order to indicate.

Just adding technology where none is required.

Apparently some drivers must find it very difficult to flick the stalk to switch the wipers on. Or they're too forgetful to use their wipers ;)
  • I have auto lights and auto wipers, it's the first car I've had them in. Actually quite like both systems, it works fairly well and I like that auto wipers continuously vary the intermittent wipe rate to suit in drizzle.

In my car the LED DRL switch off when the headlights are on.

I think its only when they introduce a brand new model not a revamp of the current model.

Think its only Ford and Nissan that dont fit them as standard to all models.

I'm talking about the latest Focus, which isn't a revamp
