So how did they get your bank details?

I sent the art from LA to the UK, and got on a flight back the same day. When the art got put in the Fedex truck in LA, they took all my bank details. I guess the US side of things trying to charge a UK bank account made it harder for them. And it was the sender paying.

Weirdly, the piece is worth £5k and customs didnt charge anything.

    which can be done to
so how would(for example) Royal Mail deal with this?
packets coming from all over the world from multiple carriers
I don't know, but the onus to pay should be on the person makes the order not the recipient.

Can they make you pay it really?

I received a piece of art I sent myself from the USA. Fedex wanted to charge me £900+, I just blocked the payment via my bank and they went away after a while.

Sorry but your 'story' doesn't make sense. FedEx wouldn't charge you £900 for their fee.

So it must have been tax you had to pay. FedEx are unlikely to let it go, it'll come back eventually...

The onus is, if you refuse the charges will be rebilled to the sender as they are ultimately responsible.

The sender could in theory charge the buyer for the duties and charges that were rebuilt.

It was 4 years ago. It (in the box) weighs over 70kg, and express/1st class shipping was ticked, it actually arrived by the time I got back. I believe if I had customs charges or whatever, they would of held it until I paid.

It was also a service that was meant to have a business account, I was moving home and they said they werent even sure it would turn up as they didnt accept regular customers (ie. non business). I also believe that is why they send before accepting payment.

You say my 'story' like I'm posting something made up on here for some sort of entertainment?

Because the fee Fedex attempted to take from my bank was their fee they charge and had listed when it was collected USA-side. It was 4 years ago but I believe it had some sort of paperwork with 0 charges through customs (which suprised me).

well why are you posting on a thread about customs charges then?
Do you mean you simply didnt bother patying fedex for the service they provided?

Fedex have the details of the sender - it has his name and address on the invoice, but the invoice has been sent to my address, and as I said earlier they've mixed up our names -using my christian name and his surname.

I would have liked the oppertunity to either not accept unsolicited mail for which I'd be subject to a fee, or to soet it out personally, thus avoiding fedex's £10.50 admin fee.
