  • I find it interesting there are a few women on here who like routine. I've tended to notice it's predominately the guys I know who like routine, while the women always seem to prefer spontienty.

It's like that in our house. My husband loves routine, I just find it soul destroying.:o

I'm here by myself and find it easy to keep to a routine, getting up and meals, going shopping whatever. I've got a profile on PoF and have odd nights out here and there but i've thought if any of them became serious, could i change ?

I have a weekday routine and a weekend routine.

Weekday: up, shower, dress, make mine & DD's lunches, make breakfast, off to work.

Weekend: up, leisurely breakfast, then coffee on sofa with my OH and we discuss the weekend, have more coffee, read the post and discuss that, discuss the neighbours, realise it's then gone lunchtime and ponder where the morning went :rotfl:

I find life ticks along nicely by having some routines in place. I do a main shop on the same day each week. By having a cleaning routine, nothing gets to the stage where it is like a huge chore, I can keep on top of it all.

My children have a routine of coming in, putting their things away and having a snack and drink. They then have a bit of free play time before doing some homework. Then it is dinner, bath time, story time and bed. Routines give them boundaries and security.

None of my routines are so rigid that they cant be changed if something nice comes up. So if friends ask me out for dinner or to the cinema I wouldn't turn round and say 'Oh dear, no way, tonight is ironing night'. My grandmother got to the point where life had to fit round her routines and not the other way round. That is taking it way too far in my opinion.

I like to think of it as being flexibly organised :D
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

a routine is something imposed on me! I have to get up a certain time on certain days to mind grandchild - he needs routine so I can time to the minute when he has his breakfast, gets dressed and we go out for the bus! btw Thanks Cbeebies - you have changed the time of Mike the Knight and now its put us both out! he used to get dressed for school the second it finished and now its too early!
otherwise - its my OH who likes routine. Or 'stuck in a rut' as I term it! lol. 4.30 every Thursday for example - he says 'Do you want to go shopping now'? I usually go as he gets twitchy otherwise! me? I would go when the cupboards are empty!

    I didn't realise I'd become so old...:rotfl:

DS came in the living room and asked me what I was doing... I was just about to say when he replied' I, I didn't mean that, it's just you normally have a coffee and a biscuit at this time':rotfl:

When did I get so old , routinely and predictable?:rotfl:

Apart from the usual of getting kids to school, getting ready for work etc going about daily routines do you have your own routines?

My parents had such a set routine (tea at breakfast, coffee mid morning, tea after work, coffee mid evening) that when I asked for a cup of tea instead of coffee one day, my dad thought I was pregnant!

My inlaws are like that. Breakfast. elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, evening nibbles, dinner.

It was hard work when they came to stay with us over Christmas. All we seemed to be doing was eating or preparing food. I can't understand why they aren't the size of houses.
  • I am such a routine kind of girl!!
In the mornings, I get up first, go to the toilet, wash, get hubby up! Make the bed and then.. Whilst he's showering I have breakfast and do his too then get the clothes out for the day. I know I sound like a slave lol but I'm far better in the mornings, he is rubbish! So helps in the evening with things around the house when he's awake!
Before bed, I wash my face, go the toilet, brush my teeth in that order every night. Lol. Hubby even says 'you are your routine!'

  • Since living with my OH, a proper routine has gone right out the window!

We get up between 7:30am and 8:30, i make packed lunches and we both go off to work. Dinner is between 7pm and 9pm, feed the dog whilst we're having dinner and bed time varies from 10:30pm-midnight.

Maybe 2013s aim should be to get back into a proper routine!!
