Not a happy bunny just switched to them very recently. I had the cooling off perioid end 31jan and its due to switch to them 27th Feb. Not quite sure what this means in real terms.

You won't be affected by todays price increase, at least not yet anyway.

Weirdly it could be argued that new customers are 'subsidising' their existing customer's deals. If that was the case, is that what a Co-Op should be doing?
Well, my immediate thought also was that surely that it is a complete contradiction to their primary premise - but, on reflection, it is only for less than two months until the prices match - probably more sensible than taking on a new customer and then upping their prices so soon after an earlier cheaper sign-up quote.
  • Absolutely gutted. Me and my lady have just moved out of our parents' houses, so we're new to the game. I like how Co-Op operate, and got a quote yesterday. They didn't tell me they were raising their prices today.

Needless to say, the quote is now £90 more. Really disappointed and now looking elsewhere, though it seems every company has a bad name!

I am in the exact same boat! To the exact days!

Pretty sure for my usages, the British Gas standard tariffs we were on (after the websaver finished Dec 31st) were about the same over a years use :-S How much does that suck!?
  • Email I received from Midcounties co-op

"We are writing to inform you that we are increasing our prices for new customers who switch to Co-operative Energy on or after 12th February 2013. Our electricity prices will increase by 9.0% and our gas prices will increase by 8.5%. As a result, new dual fuel customers will pay about £8.39* per month more than existing customers.

Existing customers on our Pioneer tariff are not affected, honouring our commitment to freeze our electricity and gas prices until at least 15th April 2013 and over the winter months, when households typically use most energy"........

"One reason we are increasing our prices for new customers is that the costs we are charged to transport energy will increase by 12% from 1st April."

  • I am in the middle of a switch as well. I assume I will have to pay the new price cause my switch date is 24th Feb. With the 30 quid I get back from switching and the money I am saving by avoiding current price increase with EON I am probably OK and if I manage to get one dividend at least then its OK. But I suppose as I am not tied in with co-op I can afford to sit tight for a bit and wait till things settle a bit and then see what deals are available. I think I would have been better off staying with EON and getting the Energy discount deal 3% off standard prices after my Saveonline deal finished.
  • I just worked I am not really worse or better off on Co-op from the standard EON tariff. Energy helpline which has the new co-op tariff programmed in tells me I am saving £0.00 which means with the £30 cashback for the first year with a ~ £1000 dual fuel spend I have saved 3% which works out about the same if I was on the EON 3% discounted deal. If I stay for the dividend then I might be slightly better off.

Wizzards - my understanding is that if you started the switch process prior to the announced increase, then you will be unaffected.

Perhaps that's why they bungled transferring my gas supply last month - now want me to wait another month before they complete the transfer (am still waiting for proper explanation). It'll either be only one month left on the old tariff (if they honour this) or just a ploy to charge more.

They seem as bad as the others - maybe "good with food" but "cruel with fuel". So much for co-op values.

And your evidence for that is??? What is the cruelty? They wait until the end (mostly) of winter. They still charge a single price (give or take a week or two). What co-op value are they contradicting?
