i was 4 days from being homeless.
there were no 1 bed private lets available either.

since the reduction in housing benefit has been announced, the rent of the only privaye 1 bed place that regularly comes up for rent ( no one stays for more than a month or two, so there must be an issue with it) has risen to $110. the LHA rate is £75,

so dont assu,e there was any choice involed. it was either this property or a hostel in the nearest larghe town , 10 miles away.

But so are many others. How many are faced with your situation without that luxury?

Surely campaigning for rights and secure tenancy for ALL disabled is the way forward as opposing the tax. It weakens the argument IMO when then this happens.

I was switched from IB to ESA WRAG and am appealling to get into the support group. My money is exactly the same as when I was on IB.

so without your sons ESA you would be on £153?

Yep A non working parent of one

    Family premium £17.40
    Lone parent £71.00
    Young person £64.99 (my daughter)
    Total £153.39

I actually work. I bring in more but pay more rent and council tax.

And obviously I don't take all my sons ESA.

what im saying is ... your son lives with you, so you have 2 benefit incomes.

you say you would get £153 and would have to pay £23 towards rent.
i get £140 and will have to pay £14 towards rent. and you also have your sons income. surely he contributes towards household expenses?
i have to pay everything out of one benefit paymenprincessdon. i am using myself as an example only. i do campaign on behalf of other diabled people and anm an active member of DDCIL ( disability Derbyshire Coalition for Inclusive Living)
I am one of the luckier members. the sensory budget is still funding me to a degree. thos that are sharing the budget for people with physical disabilities are losing catastophic amounts of services. we have a member that has several health conditions, each seperately would have a devastating effect on anyones life. she lives with her husbamd in a 2 bed adapted house house, so is losing housing benefit. her direct payments have also been cut from 30 hours a week to just 8 hours. ( her husband is also disabled) you cant begin to imagine the impact all these changes are having on her life.

but she has a choice doesnt she? according to you anyway. she can privately rent or feel grateful that she has social housing.
you have no idea how other people have to live.
£14 a week isnt a lot to you, and so you cant understand how we are making such a fuss over that amount.
but that £14 is the difference between having a degree of quality or just surviving in many cases(

But if my son moved out I would have to move to a 2 bedroom house.

When my daughter get older and moves out, I will have to move to a 2 bedroom place.

If they both left I would have to move to a 1 bedroom place.

And the HLA would still not be as much as the rent. So I would still have to pay about the same out in rent.
The rent would be less but so would the HLA.

ETA - And can I point out, I also feed 3 people, doing washing for 3 people, 3 people shower. etc.

So at some point in future I will have to move again.

and you do all that as an able bodied person. ok i only have to do it for myself ... but it takes longer with lots of issues along the way.

when you can earn a living, you can make your own security. when i could see, i could do the same.
i raised 2 children alone, when there were no tax credits and i worked full time until i was unable to through disability.

At no point have I told you to be grateful.

At no time have I given you disability advice.

    I was giving my opinion.

    Explaining my circumstances.

I thought this was an open forum.

Not an agree with me or else forum

    it wasnt aimed at you.

but if you give an opinion, it should be informed.
'if' you didnt work ... but you do.
when my kids leave home ... but they havent.

you have told me i should feel lucky that i have a secure tenancy. and im very happy that i have one.

but you cant compare the fact that you will have to move in x years time, because you having to relocate and a disabled person having to relocate, are in no way the same or even similar.
