  • On the flat front - there are only really 2 options on the market at the moment. They break down like this:
    House 1:
Rent £395, 2 bed, tax band B, modern, cheap to run but quite tight for space. Would involve ditching furniture. Long term let so wouldn't have to move again.
    House 2:
Rent £500, 3 bed, tax band C, old and listed, good space but on 3 floors, more aesthetic. Not sure about insulation level so have asked agent. Potentially cold. Single glazed. (My current cottage is like a fridge and it drives me up the wall!). Great location. Stone floors. Brrrrrrr.
Very very tempted by Flat 1 as the savings are massive (350 min p.m. without trying) on what I pay now, & it would definitely be warm.

Would be good to be warm.
    Good amount to save too.

  • Beanielou - it would be great to be warm. I wear a hat to bed at the moment. I would be forced to buy a carpet for that stone floor.
  • Well, heard from the agent the cold house got taken today. I drove past it and wondered if I'd missed a good opportunity as the other one really is quite small and it was so brilliantly central...going back to see the small one hopefully on the weekend, and with a tape measure to see if I can get it to work.
The very good news is the landlady will paint it in neutral colours and is prepared to replace some worn out carpet, so that would be helpful. At least it would feel fresh. Saw another one today with 4 beds but didn't fancy it.

Went to the co-op - naughty naughty - for eggs on the way home but bought the cheapest pack of 10 different size eggs, and got a deal on yoyo's for my eldest who loves them - 5 for £2.

Hoping to just break even at the end of this month. Next month will also be bad if I move. I would need to buy a big fridge and most likely a bed. I am really hoping everything will turn around in April for me. FX.

  • Have decided to be strong, focus on the goal...and ditch the extra mobile. :T I have asked work for salary sacrifice to get child care vouchers, so this is the first month it kicks in - i.e .payday at the end of the month. It will mean approx £70 worth of childcare is paid for out of tax. :T So at least that's a step forward.
I spent £1 today on little chocolate hearts for my girlies cos I love them so much and it's Valentines and they love chocolate of course. Also had to fill the car up with petrol as was driving for work but at least the cost was 4p per litre cheaper than round here. Will get the mileage refunded so must must try and bank that money somewhere separate.
Had a message from the estate agent today - going for a second viewing to the small place on Monday...she said another couple want to view it too. I am really scared of losing out as there is nothing else on the market so am thinking I should get an application to rent in tomorrow if they're open in the morning, and spend the weekend working out the details...DD1 was up at 5am this morning, think she couldn't sleep due to a cold - but I worry about her going up and down a ladder on her own as she is still only 3...Would have to have a bunk bed arrangement in the small bedroom there...or maybe I could have the small room and put the girls in the double...?? It's a really good incentive to have a massive clear out.:o

    Thanks for the encouragement! :)
Also meant to say I checked out the benefits on my bank account that they are charging me £8 for and am definitely going to switch to the basic current account.
And also - I spoke to my accountant today...i am right on the cusp of being a higher rate tax payer, he said if I go over I will lose out about £800pa on the childcare vouchers - so I need to be 'careful' on earnings and overtime etc. This really gets me because if you're working harder you should be rewarded by the system and not penalised!!
  • Went back to see the small house today. Need to think about it some more but am soooooo tired tonight I can't actually think straight. And still have a ton of housework to do. Yawn!!!!
  • Really tired again tonight - I just can't think straight by the time the babies are in bed. I did call up my mobile provider and cancel the extra mobile. :T So at least one money saving thing done.
I looked online at bed solutions if we were to take the small flat. It could be done if I took the small room...I am still sitting on the fence - sometimes I think go for it, at others I am not so sure...
Anyway, better go get some chores done as have extra early start tomorrow..
