I stopped taking sugar years ago back in the 1970s when there was a bit of a shortage and never resumed.I bet my late OH that if he could stop for a week he would never use it again and he didn't .I make tea for my grandsons after school and never put sugar in it at all. I see no point in replacing sugar with something else, just stop taking it altogether. The only sugar in my house is demerra for cooking or caster for cooking.I prefer water to fizzy pop anyway or fruit juice to drink.I'm not keen on crisps either ,but thats more because they were rarelt available in or house as a child ,my Mum thought they were a waste of money ,to her less than a quarter of a potato sliced thin and deep fried was just too much money.Look at what goes into these crispy snacks and you would probably run a mile they are full of oils and chemicals and very little of nutricienous value, 4/- for a tiny bit of spud No way,god I'm too frugal for my own good at times

That's an idea.
Would have to be careful which ones as can't drink anything too citrusy, but I guess I can give it a go - never even thought of it...:o:o
Try cranberry or pomegranate juices instead. They are both good for regulating blood glucose levels and also contain tannins which can help to slow down starch digestion.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I will give them both a go when I pop to a supermarket on Monday.
It sounds like they both do what I need - and as someone with quite large dietry issues and very little knowledge of how to control them, your insight is very much appreciated.0 -

After reading this thread I was looking for a sweetener free quash in Asda today and the only one I could find was a posh Asda cordial. It's very nice actually.
I like to drink fruit juice as it is, so usually have squash if I'm bored of water and just want a bit of flavour. I think it's a bit cheaper too, although I think I'm going to stick to cordials and the like now... I actually recognise all the ingredients on the list!0 -
I have been doing Slimming World diet since January and have had very poor results. I eat loads of fruit & veg anyway but am still very overweight. I was thinking back to the 70s when I was growing up when everything was fried in lard, we ate real butter, not the plastic stuff that is usually on sale these days, only had sugar, not sweetners and hardly any processed food as it wasn't available. I never had a weight problem then.
It got me thinking about going back to basics and only eating foods that are natural, with 2, maybe 3 ingredients max. I bought proper butter this week, ingrediants: animal fat and milk. It tastes much nicer than the low fat stuff I bought when I thought I was doing the right thing and I don't eat as much because it tastes of something! I usually have sweetners in my drinks, but have cut that out this week and only had a few granules of sugar and I can't notice a difference in taste. I think that a lot of the obesity problems are down to processed, Low fat foods. They are low fat but still have calories as well as other additives which we are not programmed to process. Muller Light yoghurts which are "free" food on Slimming World are rammed pack with chemicals and sweetners. I have this week swapped to natural yoghurt wiith a drop of honey. I have already lost 2lb this week and feel loads better, apart from the headaches but I am hoping they will pass.0 -
