Don't let folks put you off Marmaris. I went there reluctantly 10 years ago (the inlaws booked it) and had a wonderfull time. Although I have holidayed all over the world I lways tried to fit in a week in Marmaris every year.

Ive been to Calis, Ichmeler & Marmaris, Im not a night clubby type of person but I do like a drink and an evening out. The last 2 times, Ive stayed in Marmaris, and have never had any problems with regards to noise or drunks.
Plus you can always catch the dolmus to ichmeler to escape it if need be. Or for a relaxing scenic, try the taxi boat along the coast.

I love Ichmeler. Nice alcove along the coast, less livlier than Marmaris. Pandas66, I recommend the Dream Boys restaurant for a meal & Captain Bullsh!t. Both reasonable and great atmosphere's. When are you going? The dream Boys also run a boat trip, 5 different stops, meal & drink etc incl. Think I paid £10 for the day. Its brilliant.

We are off to Bodrum in 7 weeks! I work with a woman who is half turkish and she was telling me bits and peices.
She said that its much cheaper to change your money out there as you get a better exchange rate, and change it in a bank. Also she said dont be afraid to ask for a better deal the banks are different there and will batter with you lol
She said they do like it if you pay for stuff with english money as they get a better exchange rate but be carful on the change they give you.

Oh and she told me no toilet roll down the toilet and the little tap next to the toilet works the pipe to clean ya bum, dont turn it too much or you will get a shock! LOL
  • Hope I am doing this right - but like my name says... I'm a bit new to this!
Am off to Holiday Village in Sarigerme in two weeks time, and am getting a bit confused over what currency I should be taking!! Also if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated - my kids are used to camping, so this is quite an adventure for us all!!

Hi Liz are you staying at Tropical or Palace, we stayed in Palace last year loved it so much we are going again in August for 2weeks. We had kids den last year which consists of the themed kids room with PS2, this year our treat and we are having the jacuzzi suite:D

They accept in the holiday village english, euro and lira.

We will be taking mostly english as they seem to prefer it especailly in the markets.

Dont take beach towels as the hotel gives you tokens and you collect them every morning and return them at night.

Mosquitos are quite a problem we took with us jungle formula repellent and this worked a treat, none of us (2 kids + 2 adults) got bit, others did and some quite bad. Dont leave the mosquito screen open on your balcony.

You will have a great time, like I said we did and can't wait to go back in August.

If you want to know anything else feel free to PM me:D

I love Turkey, especially Kalkan, but it does P#ss me off that the stupid Brits get charged £10 to enter Turkey and the Turks don't pay anything to enter Britain, but having said that, the amount of young turkish immigrants who arrive in the back off a lorry and get a house plus benefits, something wrong somewhere ?

I would certainly visit Kalkan, but avoid Marmaris unless Blackpool with sun is your normal holiday, there are some lovely areas to visit, also the gulet holidays are such good value and you see a lot of the real turkey.

Just where did you get your info:mad:? The last time i looked Turks paid around £40 for visa to visit here as a tourist? £40 to enter britain or £10 to enter turkey - know which i would prefer;)

I l-u-r-v Turkey. Been 6 times. My fave part is Olu Deniz in the South. Very uncommercialised, very friendly, little villages & markets plus nightlife and there's a blue lagoon with the cleanest clearest water I've ever seen. Stayed there for 20 days once and when I arrived back in England, I felt really chilled and relaxed for ages felt like I'd been away for months.

You lucky sod, 20 days in Olu. I've had 2 weeks as my longest. Where do you stay? I like the Olu Deniz Resort Hotel, but I think the Belezic Beach Hotel looks great too, I may try that one next time. My top wish is beach front & they both are.
