Don't pay the price that they ask Adam - barter for absolutely everything! This can be fun but can also become a little tiresome  Try and have a mud bath, turkish bath, and you must definitely go on a jeep safari - but don't wear your good clothes ;) Have fun you lucky devil :D

I love Turkey also, going in August to Sarigerme this will be our 2nd time at this holiday village, kids love it.

Shopping is brilliant in the markets, haggling is good fun too, I came home with my "genuine fake" chanel bags and also a chloe bag. OH bought some lovelly watches too.

Games are also cheap my son bought a GBA SP game for £10 which had a total of 241 games on - bargain

We will be taking 90% of our money in GBP as they seemed to like this better as they get a better exchange rate.

I hope you have a great time, we are looking forward to our trip in a few months

If you get the chance, go for a turkish bath/massage, very relaxing.
Even a haircut, they give you a massage also. My OH can recommend the throat cut razor shave. !!! - Yes mine too he loved it and will be going for another one this year

Be prepared to haggle if your'e shopping. Dont accept the first priced offered (unless its in a shop and its allready priced up). The locals love to haggle.
You will hears phrases like, come my friend, cheaper than Asda, your breaking my heart, I have a family to feed - etc, etc, etc. Its all in good fun! The most common one we came across last year was "cheap as chips":rotfl:

Its a very friendly country, enjoy your time there!

I'm getting excited about my holiday now:D

Oh yes - the jeep safari, very hot & dusty but well worth it, take plenty of water, and wear loose clothes.

Cheap as chips! :rotfl: yes very funny.

Turks are harmless, but very friendly, as long as you can get over the "hassle" of everyone trying to get your attention, you'll be fine!

The GBA games was a brilliant buy, we had the same value, about 4yrs ago. I didnt buy many the first time I went, as I didnt know what they would be like. But I know I'll be stocking up again this yr, ready for Christmas.

  • We also bought a PS2 game from the local village market, the complex we stayed in we opted for a kids den suite which comes with a PS2 console and you can get the games from the holiday reps. Bought the PS2 game got back to hotel room and it didn't work, so glad it was only the one we had bought and not bought others to bring back!! valuable lesson learnt there.

Decided not to go with the kids den this year having a jacuzzi suite instead!!

    .

I found this very intimidating at first, I have a 7 year old daughter with very light brown hair and they wouldn't leave her alone at first, wanted to pick her up and trying to stroke her hair. She didn't like it at all (nor us at first), but we had all got used to it by the end of the holiday. They are very friendly over there but when you are not used to it here it is a very strange thing to deal with.

Having said that she will be used to it this time

''rate out there is about 2.63, which is good''

Im turkish myself and thats a awfull rate ...i can promise to u guys in about 40 days this would be around 3.0 ...last year the least i exchanged for was 2.8 ....Do try and get like a couple of grand go to the bank when its high and exchange all of it and u will get a better rate then wat people give and what echange offices give.

About the people...they spot a english tourist from miles...they will do anything to rip you off, if they sold you something for 100 know that the customer next to u got it for 40 ...allways barter...

and at clubs allways get the domestic drinks ..if you try to get jd or smirnoff expect to pay more than you pay here ...sometimes double ...im turkish and i got ripped off for a 70 cl smirnoff for 140 million LOL that was 55 quid .....

and when fliying to turkey go with easyjet...and then take a internal flight with https://www.flypgs.com they are the cheapest ...if your going izmir or adana try going with sun express ...they are waaayyyy cheaper than some companys such as turkish airways and BA.

Once you have passed all of this turkey is a great place and it does have some amazing features, the weather is greeat! the people are friendly, and as your english you are treated way better than they treat there own. Also there is a lot of people on holiday from england so it is easy to find someone english to ask directions LOL

Well guys hope your holidays go well ...anything else you would like to know, i wouldnt mind answering

Crazychik - hot & dusty is not the way that I would describe it but I do believe that there's the jeep safari and there's the jeep safari ;) but I'd hate to spoil Adam's fun :rotfl: Ooooh I wanna go now too.

Adam - dont forget your £10 note to enter the country, This is payable at the airport at the other end! It has to be a £10 note. I tried to pay wit a £20 last yr for myself & OH, but they wouldn't accept it. Luckily I had the tenners available.

quick-learner I totally understand where your'e coming from, my DD was 3 when we first went. And she had long brown hair with curls, she is to die for. Luckily, like Adam, I got as much info about it before I went. So I was aware of the situation with their friendliness! But I was taken aback with how much in your face they can be. You do get to used it, I find it rude to ignore them, so I banter back and walk on!

hi, is it right you need a visa for Turkey and how do you get one. i've always stayed in Europe. is this £10 each to pay for a visa? i've booked my holiday online and got no info on this.do you think Turkey might be in the EU in the next year? I might hold on with travel insurance if so.
