No, Turkey wont be in the EU in the next year, more like 10 years.

When you arrive in Turkey, everyone queues up at some desks.
You show the guy your passport & give him a £10 note (this is per person) Must be £10 note as others have said.
He puts the visa sticker in your passport & you then join another queue to have your passport checked again & your visa stamped.
It may sound long winded but it doesn't normally take long & you'll have a great time, Turkey is a great, friendly place :)

Once you have paid your £10 note each per person - including children, and you have your Passport stamped, you are allowed to return to Turkey within 3months and you wouldn't have to pay that £10 again! Unless that has changed in the last 2yrs. Do check it out though!

Im not sure what they do with the money, it makes me laugh just seeing it being thrown in a large bucket. I think I was told it goes towards their government for the help of running the country, ie water, roads, etc! Again, not sure.

It's Turkey's way of giving you an early warning that their citizens are going to try to rip you off at every available opportunity.
Sorry to all those who like the place but I couldn't stand it.

Not all Turkey's citizens are out to rip you off, but I know what you mean. I think you either love Turkey or you hate it.

I love Turkey, especially Kalkan, but it does P#ss me off that the stupid Brits get charged £10 to enter Turkey and the Turks don't pay anything to enter Britain, but having said that, the amount of young turkish immigrants who arrive in the back off a lorry and get a house plus benefits, something wrong somewhere ?

I would certainly visit Kalkan, but avoid Marmaris unless Blackpool with sun is your normal holiday, there are some lovely areas to visit, also the gulet holidays are such good value and you see a lot of the real turkey.

I went to Marmaris and thoroughly enjoyed it Happychappy :D Although I admit that I was rather alarmed when I heard exactly the same comment before I went ;)
  • I l-u-r-v Turkey. Been 6 times. My fave part is Olu Deniz in the South. Very uncommercialised, very friendly, little villages & markets plus nightlife and there's a blue lagoon with the cleanest clearest water I've ever seen. Stayed there for 20 days once and when I arrived back in England, I felt really chilled and relaxed for ages felt like I'd been away for months.
