Economy 7 is cheaper than oil heating, I agree BUT storage heating means I have to heat them during the night (when I do not want heating on), I then have to pay a third more for my day-time usage.
It may be good for those that live in a house where they can become nocturnal but as we live in a high rise building doing the washing at 2 a.m is out of the question.
The advice to move to private accom. is not what I want to hear.
I do not want economy 7 period, ( I have had past experience of it, it does not suit my needs).
I may need to re-phrase my question.
Can the landlord demand they become my supplier?.

You may have experience of E7, but you clearly don't understand how it works. It stores heat during the night, then discharges it during the day, which is presumably when do you want it. Modern E7 heaters are very controllable.

    - yes if you sign a tenancy agreement to that effect, normally only be changed if both you and your landlord agree
    - no if you don't sign a tenancy agreement to that effect normally only be changed if both you and your landlord agree

Both yourself and your landlord have a right to end a tenancy agreement. Generally you would have to show in law that the new agreement you are being asked to sign is contains ‘unfair’ terms. Your right to stay and be protected from eviction starts from and depends on the type of tenancy you have, are you a secure tenant or an introductory tenant ?

Frankly molefin I fail to see how your objection based on the 'I don't want', because I don't want, will stand up to even the shallowest level of scrutiny. It, your legal objection, is unlikely to attract legal aid funding and appears to be built on irrational and subjective foundations.

Q.1. Is your social housing dwelling either Local Authority or Housing Association owned ?

Q.2. What does your current tenancy agreement say about energy supplies ?

Q.3. Have you been supplied with, or are about to be supplied with a new tenancy agreement that does include being 'tied by agreement' to the landlords chosen energy supplier ?

They do not have a meter in my flat , my supplier is EON, they say they
intend to re-place my meter with one of their own and charge me for electricity, that is my question can they do it? can they become my supplier?.

    Hi molefin

Just a quick point that may be of help. Is the account in your name?

If it is and an Economy 7 meter is fitted, you can still have a single rate tariff if you wish. All we do is add the day and night usage together and charge as a single rate.

As others have said, electric storage heaters tend to be more economical when used on an Economy 7 tariff. However, if the account is in your name, it's your choice.

Also a good idea to pop your usage on to one of the comparison sites. See what other choices you have.

    Hope this helps.

If the OP is not wanting to use heating extensively then the changeover will be very expensive. Electric showers and cooking on E7 rates is not a fun prospect. Not all households use central heating for months on end year-in year-out. In fact, it seems to me most properties that are given storage heating tend to be small and insulated. As such there will be a contradiction - it is likely to be warm enough to not need central heating switched on for not much more than a few days now and then when it is very cold. It is not everyone's cup of tea to whack a boiler on on a timer for weeks on end when it is not going to dip much below 15 degrees indoors. Paying the extra for a toasty flat is not always necessary.
