LOL! This is crazy. I don't even know whether you would have any way of taking action against this, because I doubt it would be ANYwhere in the deeds or whatever that they promised not to take the grass!
I sold a house recently and on the fixtures and fittings I had to sign to say I wasn't taking any plants etc from the garden or I had to state what I was taking.0 -

I have a fried who got stung by a seller who put laminate flooring down around their furniture
so looked great when they saw it,not so good once they moved out and left a floor with furniture shaped holes0 -

This is the first time I read this thread and why would they rip the turf up in this weather? Even when re-laying the turf at their new place will not do much good to the turf.

1) sorry, vendors will pay you this much compensation
or
2) Vendors refer you to the reply re Arkell v Pressdam
